JohnK that sounds difficult. Can you buy some shade cloth and just attach it to the windows as a temp solution to stop the sun beating in?

You could probably get some roller blinds supplied & fitted for literally a couple if hundred $$. Could end up being money well spent.

Sounds like a good idea. It is only the kitchen that concerns me. I was going to get some curtains and try and stick them to the wall.

I shall see how it goes when I return to Brisbane in 2 weeks. I am not likely to be in there very long during the way and the kitchen is facing west so shouldn't be an issue in morning.

This move was a little sudden. I need to get rid of a lot of junk that is now in boxes. If I stay longer than 6 months in Brisbane then I may look for another place.

My kitchen and living area face west and from 12 start to get hot, luckily I am high enough to get a breeze most days, to the extent I have a regular $150 electricity bill no matter what quarter of the season the bill arrives, in essence using the air con for maybe 7 days in summer. The more you can block out the sun the cooler things will be when you can home and can open up to the cooler night air, best of luck.

My winter electricity bill is around $1400. My summer one around $800. Our prices in SA are dreadful.

I am definitely not brave.

The place I have moved to is ordinary but is better than the ones I have seen at the price I wanted to pay. There is no air conditioning or curtains. Spent a few hours there yesterday and the heat was almost unbearable. The $12 portable fan I purchased is quite OK but only covers a small area where I will be sitting and sleeping. The kitchen had the afternoon sun and it was all over the fridge. There are no curtain railings or blinds so need to find a way to stop the sun coming in.

Too many challenges and not enough time.

Aluminium foil is effective. But you should also be trying to make best use of open windows.

NLagalle taped flattened cardboard boxes to the windows in London to cut out the sunlight. That would reduce the heat transfer. It may not work as good as alfoil but the neighbours won't get sunburnt.

I am picking up this sign tomorrow.

It will be going underneath my current signs in my backyard.

Any 'nice" bar with cute barmaids & trivia nights downstairs to cool off.. ?? ;)

The Mill hasn't had a "cute" barmaid for a long time.

The Caxton and Paddo are about ~15-20 minute walk. I hear the Paddo on Friday and Saturday nights rocks. Not that I know what means anymore.

Who knew they had sunlight in London!

Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder

Perhaps I was delusional on my last visit.... At least the service was swift & the beer was cold.. :D
How about the Regatta.. At least it's a calming outlook over the water.. ;)
You know about my last experience at the Pat Pong Bar... With the 'love me long time" try hard..
& then there was the happy pill seller dude outside telling me I can rock 'hard" all night..
The low keyed enchantment of Brisbane entertainment is welcomed at times.

Service? Awful.

I had a few bets the other day. The "male" serving was throwing the tickets and change at me. I really kept my cool and "he" was extremely lucky he did not get a serve from me.

I hate bar staff with attitude....
