Wow. Time flies so quickly. I still recall meeting JohnK randomly in Spring Hill when he was apartment hunting!

Living in Brisbane with no aircon can be only one of two things, brave or foolhardy!

When I was growing up, my house didn't have airconditioning. I think only about 5% of houses would have had it then. And probably only 10% of cars. People are just too soft.

Mal that was a time before Thailand got into making split air conditioners for almost no real money.
That change made house air conditioners main stream for softies.

Flying to a strange city tonight for a wedding tomorrow and I left some cash and gift cards in an envelope on my table at home... Doh!

Thank god for having credit cards and ATMS :)

Given electricity prices - about 10% of those that do will probably turn the things on.

Completely agree. I grew up in cairns without A/C. The obsession with A/C is pretty pathetic. Found out they've even put A/C into my old school.

Have lived in FNQ and SEQ for 30 years and have never had A/C. The houses were built for the climate......these days the low set, no eave, wrong sited homes are nothing more than hot boxes.

I am definitely not brave.

The place I have moved to is ordinary but is better than the ones I have seen at the price I wanted to pay. There is no air conditioning or curtains. Spent a few hours there yesterday and the heat was almost unbearable. The $12 portable fan I purchased is quite OK but only covers a small area where I will be sitting and sleeping. The kitchen had the afternoon sun and it was all over the fridge. There are no curtain railings or blinds so need to find a way to stop the sun coming in.

Too many challenges and not enough time.
