note that the sale of these drugs over the counter was supposed to be stopped from 1 June 2013 (so my pharmacist there told me).

xanax, Valium and all the other suspects will now require a prescription (whether or not they implemented that I don't know...)

bringing those back into Australia is illegal without prescription. and with X-ray I don't know how they would come in undetected?

I can't remember the last time my bag was x-rayed in MEL on arrival.

I can't remember the last time any of my tablets were looked at closely ............. or looked at, at all.

I just had my first ever Flu jab. Hooray. Let's see how fun this is .......

I must already be feeling the side effects (feeling sick...), I booked a trip on RyanAir for ~2 weeks from now. 37 GBP all in aint bad for a return flight though, really.

I have had a flu jab most years, but never seem to tell whether it does any good or not. I guess I will keep having them.

Are you in town?

Was thinking of OOL drinks in ~4 weeks. I shall post a thread and see if any interest.

Away for a bit over the next weeks, though I'll be around mid > late NOV.
Drinks, sure.. whenever time avails.:D
Would be a treat to organise an OOL event.
Cheers.

Actually worse. Train delayed ~20 minutes getting into Varsity Lakes and then the 3:54pm bus did not arrive. Apparently he was running ~45 minutes late due to chaotic traffic and then 2 buses turned up together at ~4:30pm. The guy that was running late went directly to OOL airport and then Tweed Heads while the other one was all stops.

Had a good chat with bus driver. Knows Ray Price (works as bus driver in Tweed Heads area), follows Manly and goes to Thailand once a year.

Is the dreamliner doing practice runs? I do not really know what it looks like or what to look out for.

That's no good at all! When living in Brisbane and travelling out of OOL I always hated the shuffle between train and bus, we often found it more economic and quicker to one way a car to OOL.

The dreamliner has been a couple of times over the last week, it popped in just after 5 this afternoon and went onward to sydney after an hour or so, I'm still getting used to seeing it in the flesh!

OK that is a concern. I shall ask my girlfriend to go and find out from a few pharmacies in Chiang Mai. It could be easier to source in Pattaya though. It may also be easier to source from a Thai doctor.

As for bringing it back into Australia should not be a problem. I declare that I am bringing back prescription medication. When asked I tell them it is my own prescrption medication from Australia. Which is true most of the time except for when I purchase Rulide and Amoxyl overseas. Not once have I been searched.

Amongst other things I carry a small bottle used to store Kalma and that is where I keep my Xanax. A few tablets from overseas stored in there is not going to raise suspicion unless someone goes through everything with a fine tooth comb.

Unusual today I've noticed quite a few planes on low approach to OOL on a glide path over Surfers Paradise > OOL.

As long as they are labelled no problems with border security type people

I shall bore you with my story regarding the flu vaccine.

I used to get the flu at least 3 times a year and each time I was out of action for at least a week. Not good.

Then in 1999 when I was 35 I decided to get the flu vaccine. Since then I have had the flu 3-4 times.

So does the flu vaccine work or not?

which is exactly what happened to me once. (and it's only been once - fingers crossed - coming back from Thailand)

and it only takes one time that they decide to search you. every pill bottle was gone through, even centrum vitamins (bought in the usa and still sealed) were opened and one tablet taken out to do analysis. and this was done for my ibuprofen, my panadol... everything! prescription medication in a sealed blister pack, with my name on it, was not opened. but the box and contents were closely examined to make sure they matched. this can be an issue with medication from Thailand which may not exactly match the brand or name on your prescription.

took them about 20 minutes to analyse the tablets.

i dunno what they were looking for on that flight but there were lots of people down 'line 1' that day :(

as for the one or two pills... remember the edition of border security New Zealand? an Aussie guy turned up to go skiing with his mates but had one sleeping tablet in a spare bottle. he was sent back iirc.

apparently you can still get the flu... but your symptoms 'supposedly' much milder.

Currently researching the UK for next year.Came across this-

Probably be useful at some of our EDs.

Difficult to say on a basis of N=1.
Most studies say that it decreases the risk of contracting flu by about 60%.

The vast majority of cases of self diagnosed flu are colds.
In my case I get the flu vaccine so that I decrease my chances of contracting it and spreading it to elderly, very young and immunocompromised patients.

IMHO,

I had the flu vacine a few years ago and that year I got the flu and it was worse than on a year when I didn't get it.

I thought bad luck so got it the next year and same thing.

I probably get a few hits of the flu instead of one bad serve of the flu.

In my case N=3 as both mum and dad have been having flu vaccine for long time.

I was not referring to self diagnosed flus. Most times required a visit to GP and he was the one who recommended the flu vaccine for me in 1999 as a "last resort". Apart from the flu I also used to get (and still do) tonsilitis, laryngitis, pharyngitis regularly. It is why I like to self-medicate and purchase antibiotics in Thailand and not run to doctor each time in Australia. I need to be able to start using medicine quickly as soon as I realise I have some sort of infection.

And unfortunately I am one of those people that is immunocompromised. It does not help being on immune suppresants either.

I have to admit never (at least to my knowledge) have had the flu shot.

That said, I guarantee that at least once a year I get the flu. This year it happened twice, unusually, though one episode shorter than the other.
