Mal,

Glad to hear that you are getting over it.

Mal, I second straitman's words. I will be in Malaysia later today, but unfortunately the South China Sea is between us as I'm on the Borneo side; so pretend I'm sitting with you at the bar and do have a Carlsberg for me please:!:

Does anyone else out there have the feeling that 2009 isn't the New Year that it purports to be?

I think we are being fobbed off with a second hand year. It certainly feels like a few I've encountered in the past.

Mine has been really great so far :!:

Though I'm willing to consider this again later in the year.

One for the Amex MR members

Is it just me, or did anyone have issues linking their hotel loyalty program accounts with Amex MR?

I've got QFF, Velocity, PC, HH and just newly created SPG that I've tried to link to my Amex MR using the web form on the MR site. QFF and Velocity were very easy to do (required only surname and initial), but the hotel ones (PC, HH and SPG) were a much tougher affair.

I tried PC and HH before and both got a "Rejected" status. I called MR and they fixed up HH; PC is still "Pending" (although I now have a double entry for HH and PC - one which is "Active" or "Pending" and the other is blank). I tried SPG last week and it's come back "Rejected", so I'm thinking of calling MR and going through the same rigmarole again to get it set up.

The forms for hotel programs on Amex are more verbose than that of the airline programs; the member numbers are certainly correct. When MR checked why my status was "Rejected" on PC and HH, they claimed that the names didn't match. And that's just complete BS.

Did anyone else have as much trouble as I am/did?

Is there a point in time where one gets sick of holidays and flights in general? I am at that point in time. Any future holiday planning, apart from possible RTW in September, has been suspended indefinitely....

I had trouble linking SPG and MR - it took a couple of attempts. The problem lies I think if the names do not match exactly between the MR program and the Hotel program - even if you get the name match correct on the input form.

E.g.

Mr S. Gr on Hotel
Mr Simon Gr on MR

Even if on the input form I put Mr S. Gr it would be rejected. I got it to work by calling MR - no problems after that and many points transferred to SPG->AA to get my J awards ;)

I was quite sick of flights landing at CBR at 16:50 for a return flight to SYD at 17:00 on 29 Dec...

I have yet to experience such ... touch wood ... in fact I'm getting a bit ... um ... itchy footed ... not having flown since early December.

I'm actually looking forward to getting back on a plane as well - been as long for me as serfty.

But whilst I have my first flight BNE/SYD on QF (renews my Gold), I have to break my long held belief that I didn't want to take a JQ flight.

My drought will be broken on 25 Jan, when I take JQ484 NTL/BNE. I'll even have to ask on this Forum what to do, where to go, etc :o

Congratulations (or commiserations) on having to try something new! ;)

Have yet to experience not wanting holidays.

Travelling for work - I was over that on my second flight.

Likewise... just about to head off on another holiday tomorrow (after only arriving back from one at 8.30 this morning :)).

And I still enjoy travelling for work, also. But I am young and single:!::shock:

It's tough work John, but somebody has to make the sacrifice!

I've been on individual holidays where after 5 or 6 weeks of traipsing around the world I've had enough and been absolutely dying to get home, but on a general level, never been sick of hols or flights (though I've no doubt I don't fly as much as most here).

Don't get me wrong I will never get sick of holidays. In fact I am almost ready for another lengthy holiday that could just about take me through to retirement. :-|

My statement was more along the lines I don't really want to fly to get to a holiday destination. I am sick of airports, lounges, delays, flights etc. Everything feels stale. Some may understand my feelings having to commute every week....

While I understand the commuting every week thing (been there, done that), I must be in a different mode on holidays. I've had more significant flight delays on holidays, but they bother me somewhat less!
