Here's probably my favourite bird photo ever. I ended up taking over 140 photos down the Quay yesterday - I could have even gone harder!

I was lucky enough to see a cruise ship depart. I'll be going on a sister ship at the end of January.

Watched my daughter sing (school choir) at the local Remembrance Day Service. The gentleman (Retired Army Officer) that gave the speech really stuck it into the waterfront unions for striking during WW2 accusing them of all sorts of actions including deliberate sabotage and treason.

Not sure it was the right day/event/audience but he certainly spoke with passion bordering on red hot anger......seems some things are not forgotten:shock:

I am trying to interpret the results in life.

I dont do random or coincidence. I believe major events in our lives are preordained. And just like those who believe all events are random or a coincidence I do not have any proof either. Just personal experiences that happen too frequently to be ignored and written off as coincidences.

Sorry, but that represents a fundamental, yet extremely common, misunderstanding of probability and statistics. It also makes great grist for populist or conspiracy-theorist writers and simplistic media which further skews common perceptions wrongly. Sigh....

What can I say

Lest we forget

That is OK. You are entitled to believe what you want to believe.

Let me have my belief. And believe me when I say probability and statistics cannot possibly explain what I have experienced and witnessed.

Beliefs are not the yardstick by which I operate; I endeavour to be as objective as possible. Give me the evidence - properly compared.

All I can say is: Think about your beliefs, not with them.

Populist writers (Malcolm Gladwell is a contemporary one who immediately comes to mind) are defined NOT by what they put in but by what they leave out of their books - and by their cleverly evocative writing. But, hey, to be factual, fully inclusive and objective wouldn't sell millions of paperbacks to the masses in airport bookshops... Come on in, suckers, with your (lots of) dollars...

And, of course, all that is nothing compared with religion which is a deeply beliefs-embedded, objective information-light, system (isn't the Taliban lovely? - but aren't they just like the 'American Taliban' in the LOTFAP deep south? - Both pretty freely kill those who don't do as they say) - (ducking for cover and now out of here...).

Religion is part of it but there is a whole lot more.

Some people have the key. Some people are able to see. Some people are able to heal. We do not encourage them because of our narrow mindedness.

And many people are charletons.the belief that there exists miracles is what keeps many charletons in business. Have cancer? Oh please take my tonic. You will be cured. Touch my head and you will be better. Etc etc.

I won't start on religion.

Are there any websites which help with capital gains tax (shares) calculations? Ie. plug in date of purchase and amount and it reports on capital returns, share splits etc during that time.

I know the registry can do something similar for some high $ amount.

.

It is fundamental to humans that some people are values/beliefs driven, others are not. Neither is wrong, just the way it is.
