JohnK , good luck with your current tests. I nearly was sent for a biopsy once due to fluctuating readings. But seems some tablets had masked the results.

These tablets I am taking are most likely the cause. Hoping the damage is minimal but won't know much until I have a chat to doctor in a few weeks.

Still not a nice thing to have on your mind.

Is trigonometry still taught using those books with lots of little figures?

Nope. No more trig or log trig tables. Calculator takes care of all that now.

Read this somewhere, (maybe here, I don't remember) anyway:

"I don't like getting old, but it is preferable to the alternative."

Hope things turn out ok JK.

Thanks. Is the alternative to getting old to stay young?

Hmmm. My car stereo is dead & I'm getting a new one installed. Strange thing is, if I wanted a Clarion head unit to be installed rather than the Pioneer head I'm getting installed, there needs to be re-wiring. However no re-wiring is needed for the Pioneer because it uses the same setup as the JVC that was in there.

Somewhat unrelated: I was trying to pay for the new radio & installation using a card. But it kept declining my PIN. Across the road is my bank so I dropped in, wondering why my PIN & card wasn't working. The lady at the bank said she couldn't help me & gave the card back to me.

Turns out I was trying to use my mum's card (I'm doing the shopping after this) with my PIN. Rookie schoolboy error.

I'm used to using my Virgin Money & Virgin Global Wallet cards rather than my actual bank's card.

*facepalm*

I remember calculators being around in 1975 but being hugely expensive. As all teenage boys are want to do we quickly learnt to misuse them and write rude words using the numbers. ;)

I actually learnt to use a slide rule but for the life of me couldn't use it now.

In 1976 my Dad was given a Sharp 12-digit calculator as a promo for test driving a Renault 16TS. Very basic (the calculator) - 4 functions, green led 2-level screen with a red indicator light to tell you that you were on the back screen.
He bought the car.
I still have the calculator.
It still works.

My first "slide rule" in 1973 looked like this:

Unfortunately I loaned it to a "friend" over the school holidays and never saw either of them again. :(
Turning up to class without it put me on the wrong end of the most fearsome bollocking ever from Instructor D. Marggetts.

Hold up ... you used a non points earning card? cove!! Get this man some medicine!

Does anyone ever wonder what strangers are thinking when they are looking at you?

Anyone else in SYD? Currently waiting for a delayed flight in the F lounge, how awesome does the storm rolling in look?
