Re: SE Asia and MH (and PR?)

1. Can't answer but MH first row of Y was really comfy. My short legs ;) couldn't extend to the bulkhead wall
2. I'll be in the PR Mabuhay lounge in May so unless you want to wait for me to report back then?
3. KUL in a day? Yes easily done! Take a photo in front of Merdeka Square enroute to the Bukit Bintang area for some shopping, visit Petronas Towers, then to Bangsar for lunch and back to the airport.
4. SIN in a day? Yes easily done. Train from airport straight to the City, wonder Orchard Road for a little bit, then off to the Quay's (Clarke, Boat), side trip to Chinatown, another train to Little India and back the airport. DO NOT get distracted by the good looking women (or guys) along the way and you can easily do SIN in 24hours ;)

Or womanguys :-|

If flying MH, you'd be able to use MH's brand new Regional J lounge at KUL, and it looks fantastic:
[KUL main terminal] MH J regional (Rimbun) - SQTalk

Can't find any regional MH J TRs, but here's one of PR on SIN-MNL:
PR J (international): my first (and likely last) time - SQTalk

Thanks for these, QF009. I have seen the photos of the "Rimbun" from the same thread as I was googling for information and it does look great.

The PR TR supplied doesn't look too flattering at all, albeit this is one year old now. I think my mind's pretty much made up here, even though I've heard of MH standards slipping constantly.

So I guess the consensus is to wait for Windows Update to install Internet Explorer 8....

I'd take the punt and go for MH.

Well, I'm certainly not in any rush. From what I can see, it seems just a small bow on an already ragged box.

I'm going to install it when I get home tonight..... will let you know.

Can you then summarise in blonde, "IT for dummies" terms what the improvements are? :)

I'd like to know but would rather have someone do the hard yards first.

Also, if i switched would I have to reinstall all my add ons?

Well... yes, I am going to install it. But ... the last time I actually used IE was v. long ago; and normally the only site I visit is Qantas.com so I can login to mother/father's QFF (rather than having to change my already saved details in Firefox) :D

Re: SE Asia and MH (and PR?)

I'm thinking of flying MH C from MNL-KUL-SIN after coming back from my Europe trip in November, with a stopover in KUL in mind.
Note that MH only operate once a week MNL-KUL on Sunday afternoons (MH705) using 2-class A330 aircraft. Its a regional business class configuration.

MH operate 2-class 734s KUL-SIN, which are similar in business class to a Qantas 734. Buts is a very short flight, so think of it as similar to say SYD-CBR. They used to sell this as F and Y and could use the F boarding pass to visit the very nice MH F Lounge at KUL. But they have now changed to sell it as C and Y so only get to use the business class lounge, which is still supposed to be very good (I have only used the F Lounge).

Just got a quote for Velocity points for use on MH C MNL-KUL-SIN. I tried the Velocity customer service line yesterday and after 20 minutes (the non-joys of having no status) of waiting they told me that the specialised department which works with Velocity partners was closed, so they would email me the quote later.

They want 87000 Velocity points + AUD 73.00 in taxes. Yes, that is one way, not return. Even with the 25% bonus, that still equates to 69600 points.

I'm resisting the urge to call them again and tell them to go jump in the lake. Even if this was an "any seat" reward (and I highly doubt it), that price is still egregious. MH offers the same route at 33k, which even if I used all Amex points and thus utilising the dubious 4:3 rate, that's still only 44k Amex points. A silly amount, but not as ridiculous as 69.6k.

Nearly drove off the road laughing coming back from picking up the mail today. Was listening to Radio National and the NSW Minister for Roads explaing his government's response to Sydney's blackout.
"The public want to know that the government has an Emergency Plan and that it will work.Well the Plan worked and there were major disruptions."
My goodness. How novel-a plan that causes major disruptions!
He then went on to say-"The emergency Loudspeaker System was not put into effect because we did not think it was warranted. This system was envisaged for a major crisis such as a terrorist attack."He seemed a little non plussed when it was pointed out that the loudspeaker system needed to use electricity to work so couldn't have been used even if the government wanted to.
Hope a terrorist wasn't listenening!

The only thing about IE8 that might interest me is that each tab and window runs in a new process, like Google Chrome. I'm not sure how effective that would or could be, but that's the only thing I don't quite like about FF at the moment, and certain do not like about IE7 (apart from starting new tabs, which takes ages compared to FF). Also, IE7 tabs cannot drag-and-drop/rearrange.

Then I'd probably do it if it were my only browser.
OK. I will try the download tonight. What have I got to lose? Functionality?

What language is the Wikipedia article written in? It does not resemble English in the slightest. I had a severe headache after reading a couple of paragraphs....

Good to know!

I'm not big on shopping so perhaps I could shave more time off for KUL in a day. There's supposed to be some big place (or places?) in SIN that is just floors and floors of electronics - that'd be cool.

Current plan is arrive KUL from MNL on 30/11, do KUL 01/12 day, leave for SIN 01/12 night, do SIN all day 02/12, depart QF32 to SYD 03/12, day in SYD 04/12, FL run 05/12 to MEL ;), return finally to BNE 06/12 .

I have relatives in both KUL and SIN but as you can see the timing's not crash hot if I spend more than one day at either place (unless I take another week off and extend my Euro trip - might consider this). Apart from that, here's to another crazy schedule (and the folks thinking that I'm going crazy sooner than they are ).

I assume you're thinking of Simlim Square.. it is pretty cool, but make sure you know your prices before you go; I've never really found a bargain there... apart from car audio gear; but the 2 places I used to buy from weren't there when I went back in December!
