Update: The possibility has been raised that my issue has been caused by a spider bite.

Hey kids... what do you call a smartphone which has completely run out of battery power?

A paperweight!

Been into the red tonight?

Well, on Android, when things go into critical, we don't see a red battery. First you get a beep / alert at 15%, then at 5% another beep / alert, along with auto-kick-in of power saving (e.g. screen brightness drops). The battery icon, normally green, turns into a "blank" battery with a "!" at 5%.

Anyway... basically did quite a lot on the phone today, and didn't bring a charging cable with me, so couldn't rig it up to the laptop. And the credit card sized backup battery which I had on hand doesn't give enough power for a new "life"... it actually is only for "emergencies". Silly me should've known. Anyway, lesson learned. Luckily I didn't lose all power at a critical time.

Just saw this vid on FB.

This definitely ain't new. But of course it still marvels all people, new and old hat.

I used this technique once to break into a friend's luggage after the combination lock which locked in his zip pulls malfunctioned, even though we had the right combination. Luckily the luggage was on its last legs before retirement.

The front page of the Financial Review today would have raised a few eyebrows today. Maybe it was someone departing the company who got this published.

Are you sure there isn't an app for that? I've got an Amazon Fire I've hacked to create a full android device and I've got a red warning on a battery meter.

Good grief that makes me sound like such a geek. watching too much Big Bang Theory methinks.

My HTC goes green > yellow > red.

Must be different indicators on different Android systems. Mine is the Samsung S3 Android system. It just has a green battery indicator that depletes until it gets to 5%, after which it's a grey battery with a "!" mark on it.

I could get an app for something a bit more visually dynamic, but I'm not usually watching the graphic and instead just the numerical % indicator.

Yeh, I'd say so!

BTW in your signature:

Alliances: Star Alliance Gold | oneworld Ruby

Isn't BA Silver oneworld Sapphire? ;)

My Samsung S3 only has green colour for the battery indicator.
