Another shocking autumn day in Brisbane with Winter starting next week.

You know you're in a QP in Perth when .... you see bogans in there wearing Holden shirts drinking beer at 4.30 am ....

What's wrong with drinking beer at 4:30am? That doesn't make a bogan?

Now if you are wearing bike/cycling gear like the 2 clowns in the ASP lounge yesterday then that's a different story. Looked like they just arrived from some road race and forgot to change clothes.

No one picked it up because it's highly unlikely that a White Tail Spider caused your symptoms

I know the guy who wrote the paper, genius I might add :)

AVRU agrees, although they are still unsure what causes these unicorn bites: Necrotising Arachnidism | Australian Venom Research Unit

I have had 2 patients over the last 6 months with persistent ulceration, spreading of wounds and new lesions discrete from the old in which cultures could not turn up any trace and abx seemed ineffective. Washout and drainage and ongoing would dressings were the key but it took a long time.

:shock::shock::shock:

I used to not mind spiders. That's even more scary than necrotising fasciitis.

Lots of options including fungal. Just keep debriding to good viable tissue. Time consuming but effective. Also the old vinegar soaks are a good option re pseudomonas and other weird bugs

How close is my closest spider? On average there will be one or two within a metre or two.

Ever wondered how todays kids would handle old computers?

Great.
One of my favourite videos is of a 2 or 3 year old with a magazine, trying to "swipe" to change the page and then telling his mummy that is is broken because the swipe wouldn't work

Generally yes in most natural habitats. Some are some exceptions.

There are some exceptions, of course. Here are some:
-spiders are not nearly as common in heavily managed, monoculture habitats (e.g., turf grass, golf courses, some urban greenspaces)
-spiders are not as common in buildings as in natural habitats (although they are there, as I’ve written about in posts about the zebra spider, cellar spider, and ceiling spider)
-in Northern climates, spiders are not active in the winter months- so although you could still be close to them (i.e, they are under the snow, somewhere…), it’s quite a different context
-spiders are terrestrial, so you are not close to spiders when you are swimming!
-on the theme of ridiculous exceptions, spiders don’t tend to be common on trains, in airplanes or in trucks and cars (although have you noticed there is often a spider tucked away in your side-view mirror?)

I forgot to watch the first episode of Two men in China. Anybody interested, it will expire in about 3 hours on ABC iview.

Anyway to download it? Watched the first episode while in China last week quite liked it.

If you google "iview downloader" you should see some links. There are some programs out but I don't how good they are.

Always love seeing the outright lies being spread about me. Apologies to the Shirl, but Ego is a dirty word.
