The totally off-topic thread

The first one is quite easy. You think of it as Harry's Carpet being 1x1m, then double it and it again.

The second one is a bit a trick question. It's not simply 150 x 3...

A fence is not much good without a post at each end.

Finally worked out why I wasn't being notified of updates to subscribed threads, my email address here was my old redundant work one. I might add that I should have worked it out sooner given that I used to work in an IT department, ho hum!

I probably couldn't code JCL anymore either, not to mention REXX nor SQL. I'll have to find something to stop my brain from going flabby. Maybe I should cut back on my red wine intake, speaking of which I picked up a few 407's at Dans today.

One for Erkpod, I was at a local shopping centre and heard a couple of young guys speaking Finnish, I asked them what they were doing here in Canberra as I'm a busybody. I told them I could speak Finnish as well and started naming a few Finnish rally drivers.

One of the Finns said he is from Jyväskylä (the home of Rally Finland in the WRC) which a lot of people think of as being the spiritual home of rallying.

Anyway, they are here playing ice hockey (Finland's second national sport, after rallying:)). I asked if they enjoying Canberra and they said they had hoped would be warmer, had to laugh as it's very mild here at the moment and I'm not sure if we have had a frost as yet.

Very interesting. They aren't playing for the CBR Brave in the AIHL, are they?

They are fairly simple.

Why do people get them wrong? Haste? Over confidence? Or simply no idea?

Well first people need to actually have the basic arithmetic skills like multiplication and division. I would not laugh...

Next, it's usually haste. For example, the first problem, especially if you ask it orally rather than written, people would rather quickly and blindly think the answer is double.

The second one works better on primary school kids. It sounds like a simple division problem, but as someone has mentioned, there is a bit of a trick. The same trick applies to a question such as, "A four day conference starts on the morning of 24 July. What is the date of the last day of the conference?"

Sorry I didn't ask, however I presume they are playing for the Canberra Brave, the rink here is at Phillip and the shopping centre I was in was the Woden Plaza which is only a couple of hundred metres from from the rink.

Them's the one! Will have to have a look at the roster. Each team is allowed 6 imports so it won't be hard to find them.

The Brave have done really well to rebrand themselves & rebuild the club in a very short period of time. They are 3rd on the table right now.

Bummer - what is breakfast like in Wing? What champers on offer with brekkie?

They were serving Piper Heidsieck when I was there and yes it was available for breakfast

I'm told I had a nap that afternoon
