RU Getting ready for the Jetconnect farewell MR next weekend?

The Australian dollar has risen against the NZ dollar; now above 1.28.

I need to email some relatives or I could be out on the street.

Twitter Quitters Just Don't Get It - social networking, twitter - ARN

A Nielsen report this week revealed that Twitter has an uncanny knack for hemorrhaging users. In fact, some 60 percent of new users bail on the service within a month. For those of us who've been tweeting for a couple of years, this isn't exactly a shocker. Many longtime users have gone through that initial period of wondering what, if any, use Twitter might be. And maybe it's better for everyone if those who don't get it refrain from tweeting until they do.

Big gaffe today whilst tutoring today.

Me: "So what did everyone do in the Easter break?"
Student (female): "I was the Easter bunny."
Me: "Oh. So what did you enjoy more: dressing up in a bunny suit, or the fact that there were heaps of kids clamouring for your eggs?"

The class erupted in laughter after that and half a second I laughed too only after going red realising my mistake. Nice start to the lesson.

I still remember only one thing from first year Mathematics at the ANU, a lecturer talking about secants (sec), cosecants (cosec), etc.:

"I personally find secs a bit scary".

Alcohol free Monday-Wednesday this week.

I don't understand this obsession with Facebook and the more people obsessed with it the less I want to have anything to do with it. AFF takes up way too much of my time already to worry about social networking sites on the internet....

Me too, I'm not a facebook and twitter fan. My friends invited me to register at facebook. There's a lot of applications that I don't understand. I get tired of it and didn't visit my profile again.

I have to buy a bunch of GBP today - the only place I have found that even has them in Perth is Westpac!

I went to every combank in the city and no-one has any GBP, Euro s and very few USD.

Seems there has been a run on them... very odd.

On the bright side, GBP 1,000 is only costing just over AUD 2,000.

Ignorance is the only reason I can think of.
Are people travelling overseas that ignorant? My expectation is the people buying foreign exchange from Travelex have a fair idea of the value of the currency they are buying. So when you see Travelex offering USD 69c/AUD (current exchange rate USD 75c) or THB 22/AUD (current exchange rate THB 26) this should set off alarm bells. And if that is not deterrent enough then the commission should signal there is something seriously wrong.

There are only a couple of countries in the world where you may need cash on arrival as there may not be ATMs or exchange booths. There should be no need to use Travelex at any Australian airport before departure....

Maybe ignorance has too strong a connotation.

The reality is that some simply do not know that they can generally get forex cheaper at many places other than Travelex.

Or they don't care (EG, time starved). Or they are chasing the Qantas FF points (points starved). Some employers will fully re-imburse for forex costs, so again perhaps it isn't their money!

Then again, the online rates through the Travelex portal isn't too bad. If you go through the Qantas FF link though, the rates aren't good.

Don't care is probably the best reason.

I was out in Toowong Village doing some shopping and noticed the Bank of Queensland (Travelex) foreign exchange rates and the AUD was buying USD 73.3c but I am not sure of the commission. Is it 1%? Anyway that is much better than getting foreign currency at the airport....

I'll out myself here!

Shambled off an overnight SIN-MEL a few years ago, bleary-eyed and sleep-deprived and with some SGD still in my wallet. Saw the Travelex and thought let's offload it here. In my foggy-minded state the rate did not even register with me and it was only later I realised how disgracefully bad it really was. Wasn't a helluva lot of cash though so not a big loss. Have not been near 'em since.
