You're still single John? How old are you?
Old enough to know better but still young enough to make the same mistakes over and over. 45! And yes I am still single as not every man needs to go through life being miserable. ;)

Brisk walking is a good exercise. Shopping is not my option. My legs cannot stand in long hours, I get easily exhausted. And as long as my pocket concerns I better stay at home:).
Walking does nothing for me. In my opinion I walk more than the average person but I am still overweight. Perhaps I need one of the step counter thingies to confirm my suspicions.

There's an idea. How about next time you play golf, walk the whole course (i.e. ditch the golf cart)?
I normally pull the buggy with the clubs around the course. I hardly ever use a golf cart and the last time in a golf cart was the AFF Golf day in February and usually in the heat in Thailand.

I play golf on a ~4.2km course and I would guess that I walk roughly 7-8 kilometres, possibly more, during a golf game taking into consideration distances between tees, looking for opponents' golf balls and most times not taking the most direct route to the green e.g. turning a 370 metre straight hole into a dog leg. Keep in mind that I do this on most Saturdays and many Sundays and it does not seem to burn too many calories.

Everyone's metabolism does not function the same and mine seems to have adjusted itslef to having less calories to burn.

Perhaps if you could walk that distance everyday for 6 weeks, you'd notice something. At the very least, you'd probably feel much better.

Of course, not everyone can play golf everyday (so says the equally included).

.....

You're still young John! They say life begins at 40. And for me being a single is a blessing. You have all the time to do what you want. As to mistakes, remember Thomas Edison? Don't consider your mistakes as mistakes. You know what I mean.:)

But isn't 50 the new 40 :?:

well looks like no more daylight savings in wa. I'm glad my no vote counted.

west aussies reject daylight saving : Thewest.com.au

nearly 1.3 million people cast their votes across the state today in what was the fourth referendum on the issue in four decades.

The past three referendums have delivered a resounding ‘no’ to daylight saving.

The percentages never really change much

1975 Yes 46.34% No 53.66%
1984 Yes 45.65% No 54.35%
1992 Yes 46.86% No 53.14%

current 2009 Yes 44.51% No 55.49%

looks more resounding this time.

With a margin of about 11% and a population of 1.3m, that's fairly significant. (Unlike a 60-40 "victory" based only on the population of Toowoomba, that's not significant - yes, I'm talking to you, all you people that work in media ).

I remember starting my contract in WA in 2006, close to when daylight savings was being trialled. There was a small bit of chaos because all the systems (viz. Windows) had to be patched hastily with a fix from Microsoft that enabled DST for the WA timezone. Without the patch, applications using time (viz. Microsoft Outlook) gave b0rked appointment times. We resorted to putting the time and the subject in the subject line to avoid confusions (of which had subtle albeit minimal effect anyway).

Now that everyone has decided the long-term status quo was the way to go, it seems everyone is going to have to be repatched again! :(

Oddly enough, one advantage of DST was that one of the flight times of a PER-BNE flight that left in the late afternoon/early evening was scheduled for around 1700h-1800h for departure (arrives BNE around 2300h-2359h). Without DST, that flight leaves around 1600h-1700h. This means that day meetings either need to be built in with an extra day (i.e. leave the day after the meeting), scheduled earlier (i.e. meeting must finish 1530h-ish, which means start at around 0730h) or participants return on a red-eye flight (a la the office-ism "midnight horror" - and having done it recently I can agree with that if one has to go to work the next day!)

I would love to play golf everyday but unfortunately that is not possible. Honestly I do not think that walking has any effect on me. I need do something more and that is not as easy as it may sound.

Unfortunately my mistakes are mistakes only silly people make and I make the same mistakes over and over....

Well that should save a lot of curtains from fading earlier than they would have with DST.

Perhaps the 'Yes' vote would have done better if the DST supporters had a better argument than it doesn't cause curtains to fade

Country voters had predictably rejected daylight saving by a big margin.

In WA's agricultural region, the no vote had a massive 83.84 per cent of the vote.

In the South-West, 66.35 per cent of voters said they did not want daylight saving.

In the mining and pastoral region, 66.89 per cent voted no.

In some electorates, like the Central Wheatbelt the no vote outnumbered the yes vote 10 to one.

Globalisation is fine - and you do see some weird examples of places making other things.

But I do wonder why a bottle of Sapporo I bought in Australia is made in Canada.

I could understand Thailand, Malaysia etc being close to us, but Canada just doesn't sound right. Oh well. Still tastes like beer.

(BTW, another bottle near me used to import Stella and a couple of other brands directly from the UK. Did make a change from our Australian brewed versions of those).

Or Japan where it is native to :) very odd to come all the way from Canada.
Sometimes the Aussie brewed versions of overseas beers are rather close to the original and pretty good, sometimes they are somewhat off though.

I finf it a bit odd that some of these beers are sometimes listed under the 'imported beers' section of a menu/drinks list. The label, begs to differ, stating it was Made in Australia under license.

Good point oz_mark ! I never thought of it that way, i think i need to have a discussion/debate with somebody about that one day (where i know the resaurant staff of course being a joke).

The same places will often include dodgy beers under a "Premium" heading, so I don't see it as much different.

New Virgin Blue ad being released:

YouTube - Virgin Blue - Where Great Ideas Fly

Compares travel 10 years ago to today.

Interesting concept.

I like the tack (emphasising the fact that now almost anyone can fly, compared to even 10 years ago when air travel was still a premium even on routes we take for granted now as "cheap"/"throw-aways"/etc.), though I'm still questionable on the execution.

Certainly a different spin compared to the usual, more radical and provocative Virgin marketing approach.

Seems like another website is telling us its Oz_Marks birthday.

Happy birthday.

Another year older:  hopefully another year wiser. ;)
