Interesting that some seem to think because the ABC attacks the ALP it is not biased.Bob Hawke didn't see it that way-
''That's all very well,'' says Hawke, rolling his eyes, ''but, Ken, there are some black spots.''
He accuses the ABC of ''bias, partiality and propaganda'', citing a Four Corners program on uranium mining. He complains about radicals dictating a left-wing, anti-government agenda for the ABC. The implication is that management is in the thrall of the staff union

The delays as usual were out of BNE.About 15 pax on QF517 missed their connection to QF11.Not impressed that they were to be rebooked for tomorrow.
However it was not QF at fault as it is BNE that is the problem and why didn't they go BNE-LAX?
Or at least leave a little leeway in the connection time.
How bad were the delays?

I know the Qantas booking engine allows 90 minute connections to/from Asia which is crazy. Not sure about USA.

My holiday starts today not tomorrow. I am not comfortable with anything less than 3 hours but I have done less if I had not had a choice.

Attacking both sides is biased. Yeah ok then. Or they're doing their job properly and questioning all sides.

Given hawke banned uranium mining I'm intrigue about this left wing agenda that was against a banning uranium mining.

About 40 minutes late out of BNE-all SYD flights were late.
The DFW pax had ~ 50 minutes from gate to gate.We had not been in the Flounge long when the final call was announced.
If our flight was on time it would only have been about an hour for the connection to QF11-crazy.

Well if they attack the ALP from the left and the libs from the left it does suggest they are of the left.
The left wing of the ALP and the greens have always been the ones against uranium mining.

Just a shame that never happened. Questioning someone to support their decisions is not bias. Tony jones said it best when some liberal nut bag accused Jones of always being against him; Jones simply pointed out that he was doing his job as a journalist.

The problem he is the LNP that they cannot stand even a minuscule amount of scrutiny of their positions and actions (especially the backflips) without claiming bias. If they truly believe they are correct they should have no problem answering all questions. Instead they want to shut down the people asking the hard questions. The problem is not the abc. The problem is those who can't defend their actions in a public and transparent manner.

Ours has a 1hr 20 minute connection. All on same PNR so Q will need to sort it if it all falls apart. Its on the first flight out of Adelaide so should be ok.

Well Bob hawke said it happened.

That is crazy.

But then Qantas is at fault as well littering the booking screens with JQ options that do not belong there.

Well Bob hawke said it happened.

Bob Hawke was just annoyed at being questioned about one issue. It is really telling that you pull out one small single issue that actually supports my point. The abc questions both sides of politics. If they were biased against the LNP they would never have questioned Hawke at all.

The other massive difference was Hawke's response was to show how his position was correct and to deal with the questions. Compare and contrast with the response to shut down the ABC. What kind of weak mind can't defend their views and instead want to shut down any questioning? That's the sort of thing that dictators do.

Anyway, if we follow the argument against the abc we must conclude Woodward and Bernstein were biased against Nixon. Which serves to highlight the failings of the anti-abc position.

90 minute international connections are fine, especially if protected. Everyone says SYD is inefficient, but 90 minutes is doable as long as there aren't major delays. The gazetted MCT at SYD is actually 75 minutes.

MCTs have always been designed around minor delays and reasonable time to move from one terminal to another and board. They were never designed with major delays in mind, let alone enough time for someone to arrive at the next lounge for at least one drink before they go to the gate without holding up the flight.

The 3 hour recommendation is bandied around a lot, though that's mainly for the benefit of those who are not on a protected connection, or people who are not comfortable in airports or need more time.

If you want to get your heart going, try 30 minute connections offered by the USA airlines for USA domestic. Naturally, hand luggage only is highly recommended...as well as comfortable pacing footwear.

Let's face it - putting more time into a connection (even protected) doesn't guarantee you'll catch the flight, it simply reduces the risk of missing it. An airline will (or should) protect you in a misconnect on a protected connection, even if that means the next day or on new services which you may not have preferred (would you rather stay behind?), but if things are really going to custard, sometimes even 3 hours may not be enough (but it'd be a pretty rare chance that it might be delayed that bad).

That is crazy.

But then Qantas is at fault as well littering the booking screens with JQ options that do not belong there.

Qantas BNE needs to get bigger screens. And put codeshares on one line. The current BNE set up is really coughbersome.

In any case, what am I missing in BNE? Is it bucketing down there or something? Someone said MEL was being lashed, so I don't get it....

Understand. My point was I would ensure I had adequate connection time built into my booking so my holiday doesn't get put back a day.

Good luck.

BNE is having ATC problems according to the airlines.Had similar delays to and from TSV 3 weeks ago. Both QF and VA blamed the airport.

Well I don't think the airlines (or any of them) own the ATC, so that's a fair accusation, but suffice to say what kind of ATC problems are BNE having any more than they usually do, and they usually make their mark later in the day...

Whatever ATC problems they are having can't be good!

Hardly a fair accusation, it's not like ATC are keeping planes flying for the fun of it.
