The totally off-topic thread

Understand. My point was I would ensure I had adequate connection time built into my booking so my holiday doesn't get put back a day.

Good luck.

I know. Same here. But that was the only choice I was given on the website.

Excellent interview with Jane Goodall on ABC right now. Can't see it fitting the X factor, bachelor, Australian idol format. Who else but abc can feed brains with such material?

Not sure if this is Off Topic or not, but as snacks are handed out on a full service, oneworld airline and the FA says to each passenger "Do ya want it?"

Mmm ... it was not said with any tone or anything like that.

But it seemed, I don't know, lacking in manners?

Understand.

I became a pain in the neck for Qantas. Called and asked for longer connection free of charge. I was told it was an unusual request as the what the website was offering was acceptable. Persevered and got what I wanted.

Let's face it - putting more time into a connection (even protected) doesn't guarantee you'll catch the flight, it simply reduces the risk of missing it. An airline will (or should) protect you in a misconnect on a protected connection, even if that means the next day or on new services which you may not have preferred (would you rather stay behind?), but if things are really going to custard, sometimes even 3 hours may not be enough

Which travel insurance should cover right?

Today is 11 years since I gave up smoking. One of my proudest achievements.

One for the kids. Good example of light travelling faster than sound....have the sound up!

Was listening to ABC Radio yesterday morning and heard the taxi driver who took this video be interviewed, as he said "a once in a lifetime experience". Love the sound wave ripple the clouds

JohnK, remember I'm from Adelaide. An earlier flight is the night before. Lucky Adelaide. They'd better get that bus organised. Chances of missed luggage? Pretty good I'd say.

For those who are U2 fans, (including those who imported their first album before they were a commercial success ;)), the Apple announcements overnight included a free download of their new LP on iTunes or Beats.

I dropped coffee and Diet Coke 20 years ago this month. JohnK dropping smoking made me check up on this. Well done JohnK.
All three are things we can do without.

Yes I do know you are from Adelaide.

I am just becoming more conscious of delays/missed connections in my old age.

e.g. I have QF flight today SYD-BKK and is due to arrive in BKK ~16:45. There is a PG flight BKK-CNX at ~7:00pm and another at ~9:00pm. There was no way I would book the earlier flight and booked the later flight as they are on separate tickets.

One of my future trips I have booked all the way throught to CNX on one itineray but from memory QF website is offering the 7:00pm PG flight as the connection. I do not want to risk it. If QF flight SYD-BKK is delayed and I miss connection I will be protected but I don't want to go throught that hassle of trying to get on a later flight that could be full.

P.S. Just announced QF23 ~30 minute delay due to late incoming aircraft.

Well done JohnK.

Mrs lime & I gave up 8 years ago after being smokers since our 20's, best thing ever, health, taste & smell.

Walking past those smoking rooms at HKG airport when the door opens is sickening now.

It's a very pleasant evening dining in the pedestrian mall in Charlottesville, Virginia tonight.

The last two days in Richmond and Fredericksburg have increased my knowledge of the American civil war immeasurably (fascinating, but terribly sad).

On a brighter note, I'm driving the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah NP tomorrow :).

I dropped coffee in 1987. I dropped most spirits (other than gin and bourbon) and white wine in the 80's - after a bad night, never again :o

Cossie and markis10, your posts reminded me of that Simpsons episode where Patty or Selma has a ham radio.

I am generally quite well behaved when it comes to vice...
