I would delete his email and then send him one at 4am the next morning saying - no worries

More non-flying ranting.

I've been stewing on this for a while, but just sent him an email saying that I was most upset (sarcastically) about him trumping me before work hours. And then telling him to get a grip and not whinging over trivia. This guy will not give up I believe. I'll fill you in when Chapter 2 eventuates.

Looking forward to chapter 2. Just don't post it before 8am.

I simply cant help but responding to Gen Y whining.

Yesterday I sent an email to colleagues asking for a bit of help. I was waiting for an appointment and as I had a busy day, sent it at 6.50 am. Now I sent it to company accounts, and staff have the right to turn off their phones and iPads out of hours.

Anyway a 20 something staff member asked me not send emails out of hours as they can disturb him (somebody told me later that it woke his girlfriend). My immediate response was to tell him put his phone in another room if he didn't want to be disturbed. He responded that he wasn't being unreasonable. I said he was and not to tell me when I can work.

He then copied our exchange to all staff, no doubt to try to make me look bad. It largely backfired on him, but with a couple of staff on his side.

Anyway, before 8am this morning one of our staff asked if someone could do some work for her on Friday. I immediately responded to say I could, only to be told that "Mr Don't Disturb Me" got in early.

For a 20 year old who must be somewhat proficient at using smartphones, I'm surprised he hasn't heard of Do Not Disturb mode (iOS) or Blocking mode (Android). Poor sod.

His request was reasonable enough, but it was also reasonable for him to find a better solution than to push his agenda on everyone else. It is also reasonable enough for you to voluntarily work when you want.

Email battles are interesting things. We have an associate that always answers any questions with another question. Five "to and fro's" later of inane commentary, the question gets answered.

Actually I just sent him an (after hours) email asking him to ignore my last one. It may have been well justified, but was hardly adult. I'll give him a hug when I see him. I've just realised that my last response was petulant and was something a Gen Y would do. Shame on me.

Silent, there is switch on the side of my phone. How hard is it?

What is this guy's email and phone number? ;)

Yeah, this has been pointed out to him.

He's not a bad bloke. I'll cut him some slack.

I believe a few countries have outlawed workers needing to reply to email's outside work hours. Try getting a reply from someone in France on a long weekend.

This person really should know how to silence email alerts at certain hours.

If I was you, I would time delay your email's to this individual to about 10 minutes before the end of the work day.

Some email software can actually delay delivery until a set date \ time.... So you yourself don't need to actually be hitting send at that time.

I'm just saying.... In no way suggesting it be used wink wink...

Imagine how annoying it must be if someone were to ring his work phone after hours from a blocked phone number and hang up. It is rumoured that some vengeful souls have filled in others mobile phone numbers on surveys too.

So last century!

I think Germany is introducing a law where no emails can go to staff well outside business hours. Germany of course merged with East Germany and many there did not know what work really was.
I only contact non partners out of working hours for social things like footy seats.
With suppliers I think they should be pleased to hear from us with any queries 24/7.
Blinky I will await your chapter two and be brave because you have a work ethic that can make Australia stronger.

How bad were the delays?

I know the Qantas booking engine allows 90 minute connections to/from Asia which is crazy. Not sure about USA.

My holiday starts today not tomorrow. I am not comfortable with anything less than 3 hours but I have done less if I had not had a choice.

AY minimum tx in HEL is 35 mins!!! for a BA LHR-HEL / HEL-BKK AY connection. We have 40mins.

The real meaning of "Nuts on planes."

Here is one reason why delays before take-off can be highly recommended. Also makes you wonder (with elections coming up in Fiji) who needs so many drone batteries and for what purpose? Not monitoring people of course!

Flaming drone batteries ground commercial flight before takeoff

Passenger had Something To Declare, instead fiddled while plane burned

10 Sep 2014
A pile of lithium drone batteries checked as baggage on a flight from Australia to Fiji could have had nasty consequences: a bunch of the Li-Ions burned in the hold of the plane.

Fortunately for the idiot traveller whose baggage declaration said “no batteries” – and the other passengers on the Fiji Airlines flight in April – the fire was noticed before the Boeing 737 left the ground.

Australia's Air Traffic Safety Bureau (ATSB), which has just published its investigation of the incident, says that during pre-flight checks, a ground engineer alerted the captain to “white heavy smoke billowing from the hold”. The first officer advised that the aft cargo fire warning light was illuminated; the fire suppression system was activated, and the plane evacuated.
Even when the offending case was removed by fire-fighters and cooled down with a water spray, the passenger denied it contained batteries. The fire-fighters and AFP officers then inspected all bags checked by the passenger and found “19 batteries intact and [an] additional 6-8 batteries that had been destroyed by fire”.
The ATSB investigation attributes the fire to a short circuit involving the batteries, drily notes the importance of declaring batteries in luggage, and reminds travellers to pack their batteries properly to avoid short circuits.

Free coffee at work for RUOK day. Without detracting from the generosity, I think I should have purchased instead.

Calling out to Accountants here. Our business contracts consultants to undertake work activities. They provide us with Tax Invoices. Sometimes there is travel involved. Does it make any difference to "accounting practices" whether those reimbursements are paid to the consultant as reimbursements (eg by providing receipts) or does the Consultant HAVE to provide us with a Tax Invoice to get those monies paid to them?
