The totally off-topic thread

For those who can't understand queenslands aversion to daylight saving. Conference presentation has just informed us that the skin cancer incidence rate in Queensland is double that in any other state.

Timing of sunlight is an important factor.

The fact that Queensland is closer to the equator has nothing to do with it; where is the yeah sure smiley.

HUH, you so realise that Sydney has more sunlight than Brisbane today, so your right, it has nothing to do with the equator?

That influences the uv levels, yes. Closer to the equator higher uv levels. But the levels also varies during the day. The fact also remains that the incidence is higher and timing has a big influence on exposure. So varying sun exposure time might be suitable elsewhere but that doesn't mean it is suitable everywhere.

Also note NT is just as close to the equator, as is WA.

Comments questioning iPhones claim to comply with ICNIRP standard when measurements are made 5 inches from the body. Who uses an iPhone 5 inches from the body, besides the dykwia in airport lounges?

And Singapore/Malaysia/much of Thailand are closer or just as close to the equator, yet somehow they don't seem to have the same incidence of skin cancer. Could it be something to do with many Q'landers just not getting the correlation between UV exposure and skin cancer.

What is the incidence of skin cancer in those countries? The presentation didn't provide that information.

Maybe they should sell hats, sunscreen and long sleeve shirts in QLD? Then they could run an education campaign to get the people to wear said items.

Surely, if you live in a sunny area you should have a modicum of common sense to take care of yourself?

RAdiofrequency radiation survey across Melbourne. Found that the maximum total level was only 3% of the limit. Also that 76% of the median measured levels was due to AM radio. Something to consider for that say mobile phones have not been around long enough to see effects. AM radio has been around for a long time.

Considering the presentation found excellent compliance with the requirement to use PPE, I'll take that as a comment. The fact remains that sun exposure is higher in Queensland and is highly time dependent.

Still your comment demonstrates some of the points that the risk communication keynote speaker made.

WHO data (only 2002 unfortunately) says that the attributable deaths per 100,000 capita are (were): Singapore 0.87: Malaysia 0.41; Thailand 0.37; Australia 6.0.

(Global Health Observatory Data Repository)

Since the data for Australia is as a whole, what are the figures you received at your presentation for Qld and other states/territories. UV exposure in the ACT is a problem I believe, due to elevation.

Hmmm.

I was in Melbourne on the weekend and at ~6:00pm the sun is ~3/4 of the way up. Sydney at ~6:00pm the sun is ~5/8 of the up.

And I come to Brisbane at ~6:00pm and it is dark.

Enough of the silly excuses for not having daylight saving.

I'm sure many will be happy to know that my last update is from the presentation of the effects of mobile phones on sleep. The only interesting random factor is that 9% of people surveyed would give up horizontal folk dancing in preference to using their phone. There are some sick people out there.

But also they have found a physiological effect of mobile phone radiation on people during sleep, but no observed effect of the quality of sleep.

Enough of the utter lies. According to google the sunrises in Brisbane at 5 am. Once again you're just making it up. Is this another example of your opinion being more valid that the truth?

Queensland was reported as 1039 per 100,000. Incidence of skin cancer not attributed deaths.

I am in Melbourne now and the sun is evident, might wait a minute

<VERY LOUD SOUND OF BUZZER>

You used the words again - common sense.

Not very common anymore.
