So clear discrimination on the part of Emirates but we need to focus on the social media campaign?

People finally starting to open their eyes and see through the lies.

I think this meme says it all.

I have yet to see any Kosher signs, unless they are all kosher, in my store.

The Woolies in Bondi Junction and the Coles in Edgecliff have quite large Kosher sections. Havent noticed any in my local supermarkets on the Sunshine Coast.

Wayne Goss dead at 63 - had been fighting brain tumours for a long time.
No Cookies | The Courier-Mail

Will be sad for his family - his brother Michael was our lawyer for some time before he moved firms...have sent him a message of condolence.

Whilst he was of a different political persuasion, still have to respect some of the work he did was good for Qld.

Sad to see him go. A great Australian and an old friend for some of us.

It's interesting how sometimes respect for someone is only mandatory in death. (I'm not saying this for me - I am indifferent about him).

With social media and a current sentiment where the delineation between left and right politics is rather unique, there is no doubt that the passing of politicians will bring out more than just the sympathisers. Which is duly reflected when you read, e.g. Facebook comments.

Margaret Thatcher, Gough Whitlam, Wayne Goss..........

I certainly agree in principal, most people are "more loved" posthumously.

However in this case Wayne and I worked together for almost a decade, even if I didn't agree with all of his politics he was a good operator.

As did Jewish people and kosher certification.

Well depends how many thousand years you go back for the Jewish. Most Kosher foods are ones that do not go off rapidly in the heat or are not from animals that dig through garbage or even the types of shell fish that filter the water. Given the lack of hygiene until recent centuries anywhere in the world you can view Kosher as 'common sense on how to stay alive in primitive conditions.

Judaism 101: Kashrut: Jewish Dietary Laws
General Rules

Although the details of kashrut are extensive, the laws all derive from a few fairly simple, straightforward rules:

  1. Certain animals may not be eaten at all. This restriction includes the flesh, organs, eggs and milk of the forbidden animals.
  2. Of the animals that may be eaten, the birds and mammals must be killed in accordance with Jewish law.
  3. All blood must be drained from meat and poultry or broiled out of it before it is eaten.
  4. Certain parts of permitted animals may not be eaten.
  5. Fruits and vegetables are permitted, but must be inspected for bugs (which cannot be eaten)
  6. Meat (the flesh of birds and mammals) cannot be eaten with dairy. Fish, eggs, fruits, vegetables and grains can be eaten with either meat or dairy. (According to some views, fish may not be eaten with meat).
  7. Utensils (including pots and pans and other cooking surfaces) that have come into contact with meat may not be used with dairy, and vice versa. Utensils that have come into contact with non-kosher food may not be used with kosher food. This applies only where the contact occurred while the food was hot.
  8. Grape products made by non-Jews may not be eaten.
  9. There are a few other rules that are not universal.

That was how it was explained to me by a Jewish friend some years ago. Someone had some good sense in the dim dark past!

Quite prominent at Coles in Manuka (A.C.T.) and Woolies in Double Bay.

Plenty in the Woolworths in St Ives (unsurprisingly).

Amusingly, much of the content in the "kosher" section is also stocked in the regular shelves.

I think most Australians over say 75 have significant skin cancers removed. Both my parents have and while my fathers was related to naval service on an aircraft carrier, my mothers was unexpected.

The Australian Cricketers Association offers all first class cricket players free specialist checks for skin cancers as a hazard of the job. Something else to look forward to.

US oil CEO Harold Hamm hit with near-$US1 billion divorce payout

After trading slightly higher after news of the judgment came out, Continental shares traded lower, falling 1 per cent to $US54.58 per share around 3 pm in New York.

Analysts who cover the company said the divorce judgment may come as a relief to some of Continental's other shareholders, who had worried that a multi-billion dollar award could force Hamm to sell a major chunk of the company quickly, potentially depressing the value of the shares or eroding his control of the firm.

"With this rather small settlement, it just removes some of the uncertainty," said Mike Breard, analyst with Hodges Capital Management in Dallas. "And there's already enough uncertainty around energy stocks right now with the oil price drop."

Evolution in action. However, over time, the rules have become less relevant.

If you want an explanation of Kosher now, I can tell you in one word.

Tradition.

A lot of Kosher practices make good health sense. For example, (and explained in a total pleb way) not mixing raw meats with cooked foods or foods that aren't cooked.

You might be interested in this RSPCA article regarding the Kosher slaughter of animals.
It seems that unlike Halal slaughter where the vast majority of the animals are stunned prior to slaughter, in Kosher slaughter no animals are stunned.
