Rememberance Day holds further significance for me, as it was the day my Decree Absolute was finalised in 1995 (from first wife).

Lest We Forget - I wish I could for that (brief) part of my life :o

That's interesting the the practices of halal and kosher are almost identical. I didn't see where it says that halal animals are stunned and kosher are not. Kosher does require the animals experience minimal pain. Nothing like that stated in halal.

I'm atheist. I think that humane methods overrules religious practice every time.

From the article

"There are a small number of abattoirs in Australia that have been granted permission from the relevant State or Territory food authority to conduct religious slaughter without prior stunning – for Kosher or Halal purposes (although the vast majority of Halal slaughter includes prior stunning). These ‘approvals’ are effectively exemptions to standard Australian slaughter practice. The proportion of animals slaughtered under these exemptions is very small, but nevertheless that any animals are slaughtered without stunning is of concern to the RSPCA."

And yes I agree with you that humane slaughter should be the standard

But then that would mean no Kosher or Halal certification can be given.

Not quite.
If the article is correct it would have little to no effect on Halal slaughter as the majority of Halal slaughter is carried out humanely.
It would however mean the end of Kosher slaughter as none of their animals are stunned before slaughter.

I certainly agree in principal, most people are "more loved" posthumously.

However in this case Wayne and I worked together for almost a decade, even if I didn't agree with all of his politics he was a good operator.

I had a friend who worked with Wayne Goss when he was Premier who spoke very highly of him as a boss and work colleague. I also disagreed with some of Goss's politics but he was a much-needed breath of fresh air at the end of the Beijlke-Peterson years and its chaotic aftermath.

Mistake #2, QF WP. I made mine on a completely unmemorable day so that I would never, ever be enticed to remember ;).

Just moving my mum into residential care on Friday. It's quite a performance. Goodness knows how aged people without family cope with it all.

It's not a fantastic room but it's going to be upgraded in 6 months. But she is very happy. She will have company, activities, someone preparing her meals and someone checking on her 24/7. I knew she was frail after the stroke in July and while recovering from that somewhat I can see she has weakened considerably.

Even 6 months ago she would have baulked at it. But now she's excited.

I hope there's a magic bullet by the time I get there.

I hope so too.
Best wishes Pushka, it is very hard work caring for people at both ends of life's spectrum.

It is indeed. I'm not sure if we are being helicopter parents but while we had some major health issues when we were married in our twenties I reckon that we didn't have our parents involved like "kids" do now.

And at the other end people are living longer. But I simply can't see that it's better. Just longer. And I don't want it for me.

And as for the medical resources it's taking up - can Australia afford it with a reducing tax payer base? It ain't going to get cheaper!

The search feature is again doing my head.

Could somebody please direct me to the thread on the 28 Degrees MasterCard (particularly the information pertaining to changes in using the card to withdraw cash overseas) and the Citibank ATM that can be used overseas to withdraw cash fee free.

Well said Pushka

Hope it all goes well Pushka. We moved my grandma into a home almost two years ago after a fall. It's been good for here, but my mum still carries a heavy load.

and...work stuffed up my pay again. Instead of the standard 7.6 hours per day they've pulled some random number out of thin air and underpaid me...
