11 years ago Concorde left LHR for the last time, here is the audio from JFKs last departure in the October preceding that, never thought I would hear aircrafts asking for delays!

Very cool. 'sigh'... I was lucky enough to do that flight a long time ago .. Amazing stuff.

I'm am not jealous MUCH . Working in Sydney tower the one arrival that would always stop the traffic on General Holmes Drive was the Concorde, was lucky at that stage to have an access all areas ASIC (not that it was called that) and would often take the car over to the jet base for a closer inspection of a parked bird, but never got to fly her :(

Just watching the Country Party special on ABC - A Country Practice. Peter Nixon showing off a cheque that Reg Ansett left on his office desk one day - $81,000,000 (81 mill) to but TAA - genuine Ansett Transport Industries cheque - he kept it as a souvenir after he told Reg TAA was not for sale.

Be worth a few bob on the open market today wouldn't it? (The cheque that is - not TAA!)

It was rather strange to see a medical helicopter parked on the turf at the SCG considering how close St Vinnies is. I realise that it is often easier to fly medics in to stablise the patient & then transport via road or plane. I almost typed road or rail!

I remember many years ago when I actively followed the cricket & I saw a chopper being used to dry the ground after rain.

I'm sure he is in good hands & will get the best of care.

Adelaide University Oval used to be the landing site for the Royal Adelaide Hospital helicopter. Several times the players were cleared from the field as it approached for landing.

I guess it's because this is another Australian Test Cricketer but my thoughts return to David Hookes. I really hope there is a better outcome.

I can't think of anywhere to land a helicopter for Vinnies that would've been closer than the SCG. They probably could've just driven the golf buggy over.

Still I had a mate who crashed his motorbike in front of a hospital and it took well over an hour to get in there.

When I think back it was a pretty amazing experience. On a whim ( after a payout) I thought hmmm.. what shall I do with this? Something 'special' was the idea. Saw a brochure on the QE2 transatlantic crossing and Concorde flight and thought that's what I'll do, I'll go see family in Florida! Toddled off down to the local travel agent, who was gobsmacked with my request, got it all booked and paid for, flew to London ( had never heard of business class  ) stayed a night then sailed across the ocean. I can recall some of the staff blown away with having a passenger whom was getting off in NY and booked into the NYC backpackers!! Stayed in NYC for a week checking it all out, then flew down to Florida and stayed a month with rellies. Then back to New York and onto the Concorde back to London.

In hindsight I wish I had taken a lot more notice of things while on it but I have some great memories and a 'certificate' signed by the captain to say I was on it! Hahahah! Funny aye!

One thing I do remember vividly was, checking in, had no idea what a 'lounge' was and all its perks, my main question was.. WHOSE ON IT THAT'S FAMOUS !!! Devastated to be told that had I been on yesterday it was Madonna, today the most recognised one was some OLD English prime minister...

Just one of my naïve 'trips' as 26yr old headstrong kiwigirl, no FF class about me then! Hahahaha!

We had the funeral today, and there were a lot of tears.

It was especially hard for my grandmother (94 years of age) who has now outlived 2 of her children (and her husband by over 20 years). Her resilience is an amazing inspiration, especially considering her own health problems over the years.

Thank you to my FT/AFF friends in real life (and online) for your support over the past few week or so. It is appreciated.

Sorry penegal, I've been living under a rock and must have missed the original post. One of my grandmothers did a similar outliving time with her husband - although my aunt is up to 30 years next year :o. Her husband died on a most auspicious date - 19 September 1985

I lost a business partner the previous weekend and will miss his funeral by hours. He was an amazing fellow and I will remember his style and smile that I saw every time we were together. 67 does not sound old to me and the mortgage industry will be a little less through his passing.

I don't think 67 is old either. Its surprising how fast it creeps up on one. I'm amazed at the number of my school and uni friends that have died, some long before this age.

Seems to be a bit of media action. Might expect an announcement about Phil Hughes.

His family have asked he be called Phillip now.

I don't have a good feeling. :(. I really really hope I am very wrong.

The announcement was nothing extra. No news is not bad news.

He's in one of the best hospitals around. Only public hospital to be voted into the top ten in Australia as part of a survey of health insurance customers.

Thinking of you at this sad time. And especially for your Grandmother.

It just reminds me of the David Hookes scenario. Where decisions were being made in the quiet and then announced after the fact. Maybe because we knew David and this is touching a personal chord.

There are probably 20 other people in the same unit who are having decisions made on the quiet and not announced. Personally I believe this arrangement is perfectly normal and none of the business of the public via the media. Decisions are a matter for the family. How, where and to who things are announced are also matters for the family alone.

A couple of the cricket grounds I used to play on in Christchurch were right next to the hospital and the helipad overlapped one of the ovals.
