SMH online suggesting this morning that Phil wasn't wearing the latest model helmet & if he was, he wouldn't be in this situation.

If you get hit in the helmet by a fast moving anything, there's always a chance of injury even if there is no contact with the skin.

A couple of years ago a friend of my son passed away after a long cancer battle. He was 28. His grandmother at age of about 90 was at the service. It just seems so wrong for parents to have to grieve for their children. Let alone grandparents.

Indeed, very sad :(

There are probably 20 other people in the same unit who are having decisions made on the quiet and not announced. Personally I believe this arrangement is perfectly normal and none of the business of the public via the media. Decisions are a matter for the family. How, where and to who things are announced are also matters for the family alone.

And I am not saying anything that contradicts that it is the family that counts now, and no one else matters. I am merely saying I don't have a good feeling about it.

I really don't understand how your posts always try to wrangle an argumentative point about what I might post.

That's what I'm trying to say, I'm not disagreeing with you in any way - I've seen what depression can do to people, it's just frightful. I had an aunt who more or less just closed down for the last 20 years of her life.
Really sad.

Hopefully one day they will be able to diagnose early or find a cure without need for antidepressants such as Prozac.

I'm not sure how else to interpret your comment about decisions being made on the quiet. It doesn't seem to relate to not having a good feeling and it sounds like a criticism of either the medical care or family decision making process. It is not an argumentative point to clearly state that the very nature of these situations are that decisions are made on the quiet, by the family.

Pushka, some may read a post and their response can depend on any number of (personal or professional) factors. It's a fact that some are "a glass half empty" and others are "a glass half full". We all think differently...

Even us moderators think differently than posting members :o (well, a lot of you think we do ;)]. We can't dissuade people from thinking that....often actions speaks louder than the written word...

On the quiet simply means there is no release to the public. There is no value judgement placed on that, he is receiving and has received expert care.

My concern about his injury has everything to do with the nature of the injury, his reaction to it on field, and a similarity to some of the king punches.

Fine. I just don't believe there should be any real expectation of a release to the public. I certainly didn't see a dozen cameras set up last week for the guy who died in the park across the road.

I understand you have a personal connection. But there is a clear difference between you and the public in this case.

she had electro iirc, but she was fortunate in that she had an astonishingly patient and supportive husband. His life must have been hell, but he never complained. Their two daughters were terrific as well, but sadly one of her grand-daughters (young woman now in her twenties) is suffering from the same condition. I hope her life is better than my aunt's.

My aunt was a lovely woman, I remember her from when I was tiny, she was warm and affectionate and always smiling (before the depression took her over).

Cove 67 is definitely not old.
Said by someone who turns 68 in a month.

As someone with inside information ;), I am certain that cove does not think that 67 is old.

I can't speak for my old year 3 classmate, but I can verify that I, at least, am not far behind you drron ;).

Thanks for the update medhead - nothing like having someone there on the scene :D

Are they just doing their latest "there's no news but we're still here, waiting to buttonhole anybody who looks like a doctor for a comment" - to throw to their stations to add for filler in the next news bulletin?

ALERT: Cricket Australia update on Phillip Hughes due in 5 minutes @7NewsBrisbane

I like this article: Cricket community calls for calm | cricket.com.au

in particular these comments:
Cricket Victoria's General Manager of Cricket and former Australia player Shaun Graf said current restrictions surrounding short balls were adequate.
But he said that modern helmet designs should be reviewed in the wake of the Hughes incident and one earlier in the season that left NSW Blues batsmen Ben Rohrer with concussion.
Rohrer was a struck in a similar place to where Hughes was yesterday; the lower part of his neck near the ear, which is unprotected by modern helmets.
Rohrer hasn't played since the incident on November 2 and has missed the past three Shield matches due to the ongoing effects of concussion.
A review of the current helmets is going to be the lesson learned from this experience.

I gave in and had 2 Panadeine forte ~9:30am. I still have that numb feeling without the hallucinations.

Using this as last resort medicine. I wish it was still possible get a prescription of 60 tablets in one visit to the doctor. Could make the pain a little more bearable.

I just happened to walk passed. They're haven't normally been clumped together like that

We are good then. :p

I agree that the intrusion of the media at this time must be awful for the family.
