If you bought supermarket branded budget products in Australia, people conclude either you are poor, tight or aren't interested in quality.
Nothing wrong with a lot of the Home Brand products.

We have become too focused on brand products in Australia. Just look at all the people lining up to order coffee.

@PF - when you're in the US you can buy "home dry cleaning" kits - basically a sachet you add to the dryer and it should make them (more) wrinkle free.

Any tips for non-ironers like myself?
I just got 3 new sets of scrubs for work and they wash like rags
I've never ironed anything in my life and I don't want to start now.
All the usual tricks like getting them out of the machine straight away and shaking before hanging out don't work. Neither does hanging the dried uniforms in the bathroom with the shower on.
Shrek's suggested I send them out to the Dry Cleaners (like I do with all my nice things that need pressed) but I think that's a bit excessive for work uniforms.
I'd iron them for you, but it's a little far to send. Never let Mrs QF WP near an iron if I can help it. She is impressed at my mothers attempts to domesticate me :D

My two ideas are those you've already mentioned. What is the fabric?

65% Polyester
35% Viscose
Bright ogre green of course and every crease shows :)

Ugh, you said majority polyester. My pet hate. Try the tips down the bottom of the page: Ironing Hints & Tips

Or find a local ironing service (or lady) who will do it cheaper than dry cleaning.... ABOE || A bit of Everything || Babysitting, Nanny, Ironing and Cleaning || Newcastle Australia

Thanks QF WP :)
I dusted off the iron and ironing board earlier and have now ironed three sets and placed on hangers.
Only managed to burn my forearm once - not bad for a beginner

Right, how can I engineer a trip to NTL to give you ironing lessons - do you think Mrs QF WP would go for it??

Congratulation on 6,000 posts :D

I don't mind ironing. It's my only downtime at home during the week really, I just put on an episode of something and iron while "watching" TV. I try do a decent job so only get about 4-5 done per episode but it can be quite cathartic. If you don't do it weekly the shirts can really add up though, then it gets daunting!

I only do my business/going out shirts. Can't believe some people iron t-shirts, underwear and bed sheets!

+1. Put on the Foxtel Sports channels, or something saved on IQ and away I go.

OCD? I don't do any of them - I may be a Virgo but there is going too far...

I average around 7-10 minutes per shirt and 9-13 minutes per pair of trousers. I am a slow ironer. :-|

The taxpayers of Australia funded my ironing lessons. I see it as an obligation to make sure they get value for money from the training investment.

On a related note I'm currently doing 6 months of electronic filing. Hence procrastinating here. (one down 14 to go)
But the previous occupant of my current desk, but not my position thankfully, thought that it was a waste of taxpayers money for him to scan and file documents. In fact he had a massive rant at one of the admin support staff at the next desk how the taxpayers expected her to do his scanning. :o

At least we'll see you coming. :)

On a serious note I am surprised that you're required to do your own laundry for work clothes that have the possibility of blood borne contaminants. Surely these uniforms should be laundered by work in a safe environment and returned to you already ironed?

Great point, but one could add "saliva or other bodily fluids".

I do the ironing, (shirts/trousers/t-shirts) husband puts the garbage out and does the mowing, never the jobs should cross - pact made when we first got married, and lived in suburbia.
Now, our house block is 1 acre - no ride on, and I wont let him slash using the tractor in the house yard.
Think I am in front.......

+1 for doing the ironing in front of the TV if I have a lot to do.

Interesting question. There is no work laundry option for anyone. Only theatre scrubs are laundered and these are not worn to or from the hospital.
My work does provide gowns and aprons which you wear on top of scrubs for messy jobs.
