The totally off-topic thread

Thanks QF WP :)
I dusted off the iron and ironing board earlier and have now ironed three sets and placed on hangers.
Only managed to burn my forearm once - not bad for a beginner

I wish you had of warned me. I could have had a fire engine on standby outside your house.

I have an easy iron mode on my washing machine. No ironing required. Washing machine ---> clothes horse ----> wardrobe. No iron needed.

My uniform has no care or washing instructions. No list of materials. Isn't that illegal?

Interesting question. There is no work laundry option for anyone. Only theatre scrubs are laundered and these are not worn to or from the hospital.
My work does provide gowns and aprons which you wear on top of scrubs for messy jobs.

I've often wondered about that. I'm within walking distance of my local teaching hospital & drive past there to go to/from work. I often see people out & about in what you'd probably call general purpose scrubs (ie you can wear them anywhere you'd wear the uniform in ye olde days).

It must be Christmas time and work lessening. This thread is going gang busters today.

Yay, after 8 days without airconditioning at the office it is finally fixed. Thankfully not a heat wave in Adelaide but two days of 30+ and its been a bit stuffy here.

I wear mine to and from work, and to Woolies. I even wore them to the Primary School Christmas concert the other night. That was because I had to go there straight from work. I think I looked like one of Santa's elves :p

I do the ironing, (shirts/trousers/t-shirts) husband puts the garbage out and does the mowing, never the jobs should cross - pact made when we first got married, and lived in suburbia.
Now, our house block is 1 acre - no ride on, and I wont let him slash using the tractor in the house yard.
Think I am in front.......

+1 for doing the ironing in front of the TV if I have a lot to do.

My rule is 'you want to wear it, you iron it' particularly when it comes to shirts. I do a vague impression of ironing clothes, I really only own an iron as it's essential for quilting...

Not in my industry. Busiest time of year.

Many, many years ago a had an iron burn on my back.
I was ironing a shirt and the shirt fell off the board. As I climbed under the board I knocked the iron off and it landed on my back giving me a V shaped burn. Burnt like (expletive deleted)

Anyway, I decided to get some milage out of my pain by showing people the burn. When asked how I sustained the burn, I told them I was wearing the shirt whilst ironing it

Queen Bea spent a couple of days in the Pound for that one.

I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering if you got your photo taken with Santa. ;)

Standby train for me. Just had my meal break alongside Olympic Park station & what was part of the Sydney 500 racetrack.

Princess Fiona, do you have a 20 min "warm air" setting on your dryer? Plonk 'em in that then hang up straight away; it works on anything except pure cotton. This thread is much more interesting than the three baskets of ironing which I've been trying to ignore!

Another one who now only irons on an as needed basis. Since I've moved to London I could count that on the fingers on both hands........ all my business shirts are non-iron and look great straight from wash -> inside drying -> coat hanger. Suit jacket and tie covers anything else that may look suss anyway! Collars all have bronze collar stiffeners in there so collars generally look fine without any effort.

Non-work clothes........ that's why I love winter. Jumper covers any shirts that may need an iron to look OK. In summer time .. polo shirts and t-shirts

I miss those days.

First loan at 17.3% and as first homebuyer rate dropped 0.3% first few months. Term deposit rates were ~15% and you felt like you got something for your hard earned.

Yes, the fixed deposit rates were very generous. Made the journey to the 20% deposit a little bit easier.

I hate tumble drying things
Line dry is so much better. Perhaps my tumble dryer and I need to get re-acquainted as it does indeed have those settings on it :)
