Many private hospitals (in SA anyway) do not have a ward called "intensive care" but only a high dependency one. Nothing to do with mental health.

Ta. Relates to a family member in another state. Perhaps it's just related to my work, but my impression is that geriatric people facing degenerating cognitive capacity are in the high dependency area. I was bit worried about brain damage when getting the news.

There's no need to worry based on that move alone. High Dependency in Aged residential might mean brain impairment but can also relate just to high physical needs that might be temporary.

Recovery from strokes can be quite amazing.

I'm finding that mum who had a stroke in July is on a significant coughtail of drugs. Also on statins even though she doesn't have high cholesterol as it's supposed to aid in heart function. But now her memory is not so good.

I really hope we sort all this ageing and choice of life stuff out in the next few years. I don't like seeing into my future so much. :(

There is definitely a need for professional advice re the email situation but it could be argued that it is work product, i.e. created by using the employer's resources and on the employer's time. Therefore they belong to the employer.

The data is stored on the employer's servers etc. Also, they could well need those emails to continue business with some clients after your departure so it is reasonable that they access them regardless of your wishes.

And as the hour of departure is rapidly approaching your options are limited.

My final date is actually December 31, but we are closed from today to January 5. So I still have over a week of employment.

in regards to my email, I haven't used it for anything personal (bar my payslips and contract info), but I PAd for a Centre Head for most of the year in addition to my usual job, and I have a lot of emails pertaining to her that are confidential. My boss cannot have access to those.

as I said in my meeting with him, I was arranging with IT to have any important emails downloaded and handed over. But we went round and round in circles with him demanding access to my computer and email. I received a new computer last week, he has already been given the relevant files, but I was concerned with him having access to my personal files, so the hard drive was removed and destroyed by someone higher up the chain. There is nothing left on my new computer. He seems to think if I gave him password access to my computer he would then have access to my email, but we use gmail so it's not actually on any one computer.

That's interesting using gmail in a work environment and not a dedicated business domain name of the business. And that being the case it simply doesn't belong to the employer at all.

It does have a business domain name but it's run through gmail. So it's [email protected] essentially.

A lot of companies and education/research organisations use Google Mail. Basically Google hosts your corporate mail and allows you to access it anywhere. My ex-employer (US Cloud software company) used hosted Google Mail for all employees.

We can access our email on any device using webmail which accesses our server. We can also access all our business docs in this way too.

Today I used "pricepal" which is the new name for starthere and received Woolworths eGift Cards in less than 4 hours.
Wow that should put a shudder thru Coles as anyone can now get them very quickly and get 5% off everything in the Woolworths group including Masters Hardware and Dan Murphys.
I used my Woolies EDRCC to pay so I received $1000 face value for $950 plus 950 Qantas frequent flyer points.
Naturally I am very pleased with the delivery speed plus $50 tax free discount is sweet.

Yes, you had the wonder which ones were the (upper class) twits, whilst MRD had the common sense.

Are you sure he didn't sample some of the contents shown top right in the 'lay down' photo...

PS: I've seen the embroidered foot stool somewhere before.

He does quite like licking the top of the Asahi bottles. Or if it's in a glass he licks the outside. He's into imported beers! :p

My grandmother did embroidery. It's actually the base of a chair but the pattern can be used for footstools too.

It's called sharing.

That was the one thing that I wasn't sure about and didn't want to buy multiple choccies.

Sharing is good. :p

Now, our connecting flight is on Emirates. Hmmm. What to do then? Anything?
