This time last year, I was preparing to leave Sydney on my way to Vegas via LAX on zero sleep after driving trains all night on NYE.

Last night, I was on standby in the suburbs & didn't turn a wheel. That would have been way better before a long hail flight.

Instead of going to Vegas like I did on this day last year, I'm off to Berowra via the north shore amongst other places.

I hope the cleaners were able to do some work on the Vomit Comets after last night. In some cases that's a little difficult because some of the trains haven't been to bed since yesterday morning.

Happy New Year AFF!

It was a quiet affair at châteaux penegal last night. I cooked for two other couples and we enjoyed an eclectic mix of wines and coughtails.

Having had a few major health scares in recent years, I am very grateful to have seen out another year. Bring on 2015 :) :)

Happy New Year from EDI airport. We got here before 5am, after all three of us waited up for the NYE castle fireworks.

Really wish we could have stayed longer in our nice upgraded suite at the Caley. Sigh.

Looking forward to LHR-MEL in J and what looks like a quiet flight!

I too would use that as a hand hold. There's no other reason for it.

I've looked at those things plenty of times and never considered them a hand hold: no idea what they are as an alternative. Why would you use them as a handhold when there's plenty of yellow vertical poles around? Just seems to be an uncomfortable option if you use it as a handhold?

So I've now been thinking about them for the last five minutes and all I can come up with is maybe a temporary 'gate' might be installed there if the doors weren't working properly??? (but surely the train carriage would just be taken out of service if the doors didn't work properly) #mysteriesoftheuniverse

Catch a crowded train (peak hour) where you're at the door, you can't reach a yellow pole because of the numerous people in the way and the driving is a bit bumpy. Perfect handhold right above your head that will stop you from falling over.

Happy New Year from Tumby Bay South Australia its on the eastern side of Eyre Peninsula.

2014 was a good year, and I have a couple of trips planned for 2015, I hope work doesn't cause me too much grief.

Look forward to catching up with a few of you in 2015.

So how are you doing in the Aussie Championships??

Day trip with a few friends to Rye, Camber and Canterbury today. No solid plans for this evening, but will see what happens. London now limits the attendees for the fireworks and unless you were able to purchase one of the very few tickets that were for sale, then there's no point heading in. Shame really but c'est la vie.

Well ended up with a fairly busy night, which consisted with playing for fireworks for an hour or so - great way to bring in the new year. Firing off your own fireworks never grows old

I really must buy an AFF membership to stop these infernal ads.
Do they really think I want to go on a trip with him?
Mind you, I'm sure he was in SQ F, last time I came back from LHR...

Kicking off 2015 with the train from Wang to Melbourne
Hoping you're still alive and haven't tried throwing yourself out the window after three hours on a cattle-car trip that would take 60 minutes in Japan!

If we're all posting New Year's sunrise photos, here are 2 of mine, taken from the bedroom:
