The totally off-topic thread

Unfortunately I think you are out of luck. Many comments coming from the Super funds about changing the system so it is fairer. But the real reason is to keep the money in their funds so they can continue getting their billions of dollars fees.

Then there is all the talk about extra taxes for the rich on their super. Those that are really rich dont have super as their main wealth accumulation vehicle-the most you can contribute to super and get the tax concessions is $35000 per year if you are over 50.
Doesn't matter what political party you support they are all talking about "making it fairer".When you analyse what they say there seems to be agreement that those earning over $100,000 are classed as rich.

Session and discussion over lunch with an eminent investment manager yesterday was about the possible outcomes from the Murray Review - he believes the tax free status enjoyed by retirees may be under fire with it going back up to match super funds (15% tax on investment earnings, 10% tax on CGT). Now what is released in a report and subsequently taken up by Governments are usually lowly correlated (as they are usually political suicide) :D

Here's the report that we were discussing yesterday over lunch with Dr Don Hamson (bio)

Murray report on tax could deal harsh blow to pensioners!

How was it Medhead? The venue looked interesting

I really enjoyed it. The courses were very good. Got to try the new first class spanner crab dish, being released today.

Slight negative on the service with our section of table having slow service or being missed completely or side dishes and the wine for each course. The sticky wine, in particular, we were completely missed. When provided on request we got a short pour while those around were getting top ups. Minor things.

Got to try the new A330 business suite. There were mock ups of the various cabins and also the first lounges.

Saw some pics from this event on Facebook. It looked really good. Shame about the gaps in service.

The gaps were relatively minor for such a large crowd. While I would have liked 2 more glasses of wine (1xclaret and 1xsticky), it wasn't a big deal. Overall, on both food and drink I left there wanting more, which is a good thing compared to stuffed full.

The night itself was interesting, hearing the producers stories was really good. Who knew there was so much to salt? Also helps being salt from South Oz, but I still say the salt is red from the iron oxide and not from keratin. All the producers mentioned how great it was to be served on Qantas. My uncle is a long term Queensland fisherman including crabbing, so I had a chat with the Spanner Crab producer. He mentioned that Qantas was great in helping them to open up into new markets and supporting them as a small industry. Certainly Fraser Isle crabs is new as a brand to me.

That does get on to one thing, the night was pretty clearly a marketing event. (not a criticism) The talk was about brands and not products. Slightly different to the Taittinger launch that I attended, well perhaps only in having multiple brands instead of one brand. ;) Perhaps something to consider for anyone else considering going to an Epiqure event.

As well as the spanner crab, I enjoyed the Oakridge Blanc de blancs. Will probably order some today. The butter as well. As good as El Presidente butter from France. I have an extra serve to take home for SWMBO to try.

I think that's all of my thoughts, so probably not worth a separate thread. Thanks to Froggeradl for sharing a ticket to the event

I don't talk about it often, but my grandmother (born in 1920) is still going. Not bad for someone who the doctors wanted to give up on in the early 1960s!!!

She has had numerous strokes (CVA), and lost her ability to speak in the 1960s, she re-learnt how to speak over a 2 year period, then lived happily for many years before a major CVA in the 1990s during which she lost it again. Our family has rallied around her and she still lives in her own home to this day (although she does need some care in the home now).

She has outlived two of her children and remains a warrior and an inspiration to us all. We love you!

Love Vikings on SBS
I just started watching the first episode of seaSON 3. I lasted about ten minutes - my daughter was trying to precis the story and tell me about the characters. I lasted ten minutes. I'm thinking it would be a great one to sit and watch in a block from the beginning!

Happy 81st Birthday to my Dad yesterday. Still smoking and drinking his red wine but somehow still going!!!

BBC Horizon - Dancing in the Dark - The End of Physics?

"Professor Katie Freese is a theoretical physicist. That is to say the physics she deals with is theoretical. Katie herself is real."

What was the temperature in Brisbane today? I think it is 26C now but feels much hotter. The chocolate Easter bunnies I bought earlier today have almost melted.
