Paying health premiums up to 13 months in advance - Max permitted

Haven't looked at the detail. Just recall hearing the government approved that increase for my health fund. Never thought to consider the interplay of rebates and such. Perhaps I should considering our monthly premium is $346 at the moment.

So,using this as a predictive 'science', should one pay health insurance a year in advance or buy QANTAS shares? Or just use up one's QF Points ASAP or buy Riedels?

Great minds think alike.

I called my health fund who sent througha "Your Premium's going up" letter last week. Not due until July though.

Remembered how all the Health Funds sent out letters to 'renew your premium a year in advance' before the decrease in Gov rebates (it was wasn't it) came through a few years back.

So rang, very informative conversation.

"Yes you can renew in advance to a maximum of 13 months ahead of the current date. As your policy is due in July, we'll pro-rate the additional 9 months of the premium for this renewal through to April 20, 2016."

In your letter it does not mention that we can renew in advance.

"We've been told not to suggest it to callers but if someone rings to work out the maximum saving by going for the 13 months from today's date."

Deal done, feeling pleased with the outcome and then a bonus (common sense more common when you know the answer).

"Don't forget to put a note to renew your premium in late March 2016 so you beat the price rise again!"

Note made on letter and calender updated for future reference.

Perhaps an AFF alert about Health Fund premiums in mid-March would be a worthy service (near the top of the weekly email)?

Slight negative on the service with our section of table having slow service or being missed completely or side dishes and the wine for each course. The sticky wine, in particular, we were completely missed. When provided on request we got a short pour while those around were getting top ups. Minor things.

.

QF were just mimicking the in-flight experience. Mostly good, sometimes patchy and inconsistent......

Doubtful. But I'm sure people who have values get deserved recognition

Interesting both Howard and Abbott both using Fraser's death to have another dig at Gough Whitlam. Very classy. Anyway Victorian Premier Dan Andrews with his thoughts on Fraser.

On behalf of the Victorian Government, I send my condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Australia’s 22nd Prime Minister, Malcolm Fraser.
Malcolm Fraser was a Victorian of purpose and principle – an architect of our diversity and a giant of stature, intellect and legacy.
Recently, Malcolm Fraser and I attended an event with members of our Vietnamese community. They could not have admired him more for his humanity and compassion.
For years, he served our nation. For decades, he served the people of Western Victoria. For a lifetime, he served the contest of Australian ideas. We’re all better for it.

84. Not old in the scheme of things. The last of the "True" liberals. (IMHO)

Not quite. My mentor Peter Baume is still alive. He was definitely from the "liberal"wing of the party. One of his Senate colleagues is definitely still going strong-Chris Puplick.

No shadow of a doubt.

Truck has hit a bridge at Auchenflower. No trains. Have to get to Milton then somehow get to airport.

Does this ever stop?

Just got home from having lunch with a friend and doing the supermarket shopping. Turned on the AC and it said it was 37C inside the house !!!

I am about to overheat. The sweat is dripping off me. I must have lost a kilo in the past hour.

It feels like train aircon not coping either.

He ended up being to the left of what passes for the left today. The current lot of politicians from all sides would do well to learn from him.

Interesting, given that the incumbent rights already regard the left as a form of cancer, in particular one minor party which is perceived as so left it is radical and ideologically poisonous.

Well there is an eclipse here (in the UK) this morning and sadly in London the cloud coverage is 100% so the effect is minimised. Only expected to be about 80% coverage of the sun so not total darkness here but it did get a bit dimmer.

However, the television shots of areas where there is total coverage is fascinating.
