Depends on the uni and their model. I had to get my honors degree to do my PhD but now it's a masters instead.

Yes. She had to do honours then was looking at a combined Masters Honours. That was when her lupus started flaring so I'm not sure how that played out. I should add she was working part time during her honours but then when the babies arrived 2.5 years ago she stopped worked but developed a craft business from home.

Like I said. I'd have to check the details. But this is coverage with this people that is entire disconnected from any hospital. Direct with them at their private practice. Not sure if that's consider outpatient or not.

Either way it doesn't change the situation that not everyone can afford a private specialist. Hence why public clinics exist and are used.

agree medhead.

Have noticed a few clangers on the ABC recently.
Last night here in Tassie on the late news there were two.
Talking about the crash in France-"it is believed it was an older plane,an A20." I hope it wasn't one of these.A bit crowded -https://www.airforce.gov.au/raafmuseum/research/aircraft/series2/A20.htm
"Angelina Jolie had her ovarians removed"

A couple of weeks ago regarding the young suicide bomber the feed across the bottom of the screen read-"family found possible bomb making items in his bedroom and altered the authorities."

Any recommendations on who to vote for in NSW elections Saturday? I have heard of Baird. I don't even know who is opposing him or which party either is representing.

Can you trust me electing the next government? ;)

When I was looking to do a PhD, the best way was to start Masters, then upgrade the issue/ topic then change it to a PhD being sought.

However I found that employment paid better, and that was that .

I never really considered it until my I got 3 credits in my first 4 Masters subjects...maybe I'm not so much of the "reluctant student" that I thought I was.

However, I then got diagnosed with cancer and found living was more important and that was that :D. Took the Grad Cert on offer instead.

Clients never really care what letters you have after your name and what they spell...

After 2.5 months of jumping through hoops, Centrelink have deemed me eligible for support of $7 a fortnight. How one is supposed to live on that is beyond me. And they still arent fully convinced that I'm an Aussie... It's no wonder that people try to cheat the system when being honest gets you nowhere.

I am working at one of the polling places - so not allowed to voice an opinion. (there is my accommodation in Dubai paid for by working that day.)

That sounds odd, but I'm not sure for which benefit you opted to apply - Newstart Allowance??

Welcome to my world of having to deal with Centrelink. They have completely stuffed up 5 of my clients entitlements since we made changes in December as well as telling another 2 they are ineligible (when they clearly are, just Centrelink can't delete the "old" assets and insert the "new" assets).:evil::evil:

That's probably why I am drinking so much at night now...

Yes, Newstart. They guy today made reference to my resident visa  I had to tell him to check my file for my Australian birth certificate. The very helpful job search provider they sent me to told me I was educated therefore I could find my own job and would not receive help.

I thought of you the other day - wondering how the job hunting was going, obviously not good.
Would swap you my PA job today - about to go shopping on-line for underwear for my boss, I don't know whether to laugh or cry that I know all his sizes for clothes.

I voted using iVote before I left for the UK. That's a great system. Hadn't heard much from either side to be honest.

Oh that sounds delightful! I never did anything like that for my boss, though he did once answer his front door in a towel...a sight I have unfortunately not forgotten. And that was after knocking on his neighbours door because he gave me the wrong house number; she also came to the door in a towel.

Maybe they had just ...no, let's not go there :D

G'won, lets.

I've read that carefully. Yes, you knocked on the neighbours door, but its not clear which door the neighbour subsequently came to.

Strange that a Masters are required for your 'lot' now? Not for us. An honours degree was/is all that was required.

"To meet the Graduate School admissions requirements for a PhD you would need to provide evidence of one of the following:

  • Subject to approval of the Dean, UQ Graduate School, the University accepts qualifications equivalent to a UQ bachelor's degree with honours class IIA or better, which is the standard basis of admission. "
..."

Never seen the real point of a Masters actually. We considered a Masters as more suitable for those who don't have the time or dedication for a PhD and those who are more doing part time research while fuilly employed by external company or government department.

A PhD wont get you Psych Registration. Master's does. The Academic world is a mystery.

Has been this way for a while. It is also not that a masters is required. More that a masters is an easier pre-entry step. It is also possible to be admitted to a Masters without an honours degree (depending). The usual process being to enrol in a masters on an open ended topic. At the end of the first year of the masters the candidate does a presentation equivalent to confirmation of candidature in which they say "this topic is so much bigger than anticipated I'm expanding the topic". They apply to upgrade to a PhD. Examiners approve or otherwise.

As for the snobbery of UQ. The less I say the better. In my experience UQ has a false sense of superiority. Trying to teach people honours level physics by reading a data sheet. Please!
