How many shoeboxes will you have to search to find that shoebox? ;)

If we are only counting shoe "boxes" and not pairs of shoes - should keep number under about 30
(you do realize I am now going to go count my boxes) where is that calculator....

My tax return this year will be quite complicated, as I have to report a foreign income.

No, I did not declare myself a non-resident for tax purposes. It was recommended that I not declare as such just in case I didn't actually have a long stay out of Australia (the contract was never guaranteed for more than a year; it would be unreasonable to assume otherwise and act as such). However, now I have to resolve that foreign income and whatever processes are necessary to account for it so as not to pay tax twice.

My rough guesses are that, without deductions, the amount of additional tax I have to pay to the Australian government will be about a couple of grand. The Swiss have already taken their cut and I don't need to fill in a tax return here.

Normally I'd do this all on e-tax (I am the only one in my family that had such simple tax affairs for a while). I think now I'm going to have to ask our family accountant.

Personal, 2 x company and also SM super fund returns. Just lodged 2013/14 ones in over the past month or so. Accountant's pre end-of-year review of 2014/15 sees me in for a large refund, so returns will be in in record time this time :) . As in ... I'm tidying up the spread sheets now.

I lived in Canada for a few years a while back. As they 1) have a different tax year from us (calendar), 2) have all sorts of federal and provincial income taxes with credits and charges spanning 2 years or more in effect, and 3) I was in Quebec, the most complicated of all ..... it took 4, yes count 'em 4 years for Canada to wash out of my tax affairs. Kept accountants busy on both sides of the Pacific; fortunately the employer paid for the Canadian one.

ditto, I don't ask about how he come up with the figures (I just sign where told) and he does not ask about how much our travels cost. He just occasionally likes to know when he is going to be out of the country.
