The totally off-topic thread

Obviously some misunderstanding / ambiguity with your first post. :p

Sure - I just looked at the $ amount with the Super before Monday, and then the $ amount post Monday and had a little weep. ;) . If it hadn't been the end of the financial year I would not have looked at all - but I had to print off an eofy report for our SMSF. If it had been say November, I could have stayed in denial. Much better place to be.

Today Westpac's computer is acting like a Greek Bank. It has been broken for a while. I guess they are trying to finish the June30th financial year.

Don't try even looking up information pages on the ATO site - nothing seems to be working there either.

2 of my super accounts are only just back to the capital that was in them in 2007/2008. I have not added any money to these super accounts. What a waste of 7 years.

The other thing I note with interest is most super funds have been setup since 2010 or at least only reporting performance figures since 2010. Pre 2008 they were happily talking about performance over the past 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years.

I wonder what happened!

Do people even know how and when to relax anymore? Currently in Bangkok and was having the almost obligatory foot massage at my favourite store in MBK.

I was the only person not on a phone or other electronic device. This is the perfect time to relax and be pampered but now people are missing out on me time.

The staff seemed a bit frustrated at having to get through the electronic fugue to administer the massage and I noticed that the person serving me enjoyed it more than her colleagues.

Still it's their loss but the effect on staff needs to be considered as well.

You should combine your super accounts into one, via mygov. I suspects fees are gobbling up any gains.

You are right about combining but the fees are not the only issue.

I don't know why I keep putting it off. I have been meaning to do it for the past 12 months but keep finding excuses not to do it.

I have just watched the end of what can be a rather dry show: "Antiques Roadshow". This one reduced me to tears.

The last segment was a story about a family of brothers who went to the First World War.

Did you see the watch yesterday that was valued at £50,000?

Selfie sticks! What a stupid invention.

Depends on if you can find someone to take your photo without doing a runner with your camera.

Or, if people will stop taking photos insisting that they must be in them.

The article in question does point out some idiotic situations, however, like using a selfie stick whilst on a rollercoaster....

I avoid having people in my photos, including myself unless it is a photo of me, not the scenery. Why spoil a good shot with my mug!

My problem has always been that I was expected to take the majority of photos, and so appeared in very few. A lot of people would say something like "did you go to xx_ as well?". But rather than selfies, bought a camera and applied moral pressure to MrsOATEK to snap a few just to show I rally was there. Now that MrsOATEK has finally relented and carries a smartphone, I do seem to appear more often on our various excursions.

I 'liked' that meaning I agree with the sentiment wrt myself, not wrt your mug .

I've seen bloody selfie sticks used at restaurant tables overseas .

I love photos. I think it is becoming my new found interest/hobby. Bought a fabulous super zoom, so that, with my iphone and excellent underwater camera see me right.

My phone is organised into a catalogue of photos sorted into folders so I can quickly find any of my 10,000 photos on my phone. Right from scanned photos of my grandparents (born pre 1900) through to parents wedding photos, my childhood, my kids, and my travel. I even have a Kats folder. A 'houses' folder. Sigh.

I think there is a difference between selfies versus appearing in a photo, family shots and scenery pictures. It is the scenery ones that don't need people.
