Got a letter in the mail today from the local council regarding a Notice of Application for a Planning Permit. The property in question backs on to mine and the permit request is for a 2 storey, 104 place childcare centre, with 25 car spaces. The carpark will back on to my back fence. The existing structure is an old community church which has been vacant for probably the last 5 years and apart from some kids lighting a fire in a wheelie bin (for which I had to call the fire brigade), it has not impacted our family at all.
The application cites "Use and development of the land for a Child Care Centre and associated vegetation removal". I'm pretty sure they will be knocking down the existing structure for a new one and I will be very happy if they get rid of the very large gums that overhang my fence.
But, if this was your property, what questions would you be asking of council for the project? High fences, screening trees, operating hours, construction building hours? Any clues from property experts if this is a good or bad thing from my perspective?
Or, is there some kind of professional person who I should employ to assess this for me? And if so, should this be my cost or something I could request be reimbursed from council or the developer?
