My original decision not to fly EK was the experience of family.
Parents flew 4 times with them in F to Europe. At least 1 bag didn't fly with them on each flight.
Sister flew once and bags disappeared for ever.
All the stories since reinforce my decision not to fly EK.

On to Bali.We went a few times in the 70s usually staying Uluwatu or Ubud. The bogans finally got enough money. We will never be back.

The thing about Middle Eastern airlines seems to be that when all things are good, they really flog the rest of the field.

But when things go sour, it is impossible to reason with them, as they always seem to have a way to wriggle out of their responsibilities.

The catch is that most people go through with an OK experience, so you don't hear a thing, except possibly praise because, say, they paid less than they would on Qantas, the staff are younger and the food was better. Only the most difficult grievances make the news, cf. our two national airlines where all grievances make the news.

Anyone got anymore on the guy strapped in Emirates flight after belting hostie.... Had a kid with him..... Then allowed to fly to NZ?????

Something more to the story.Interviewed by the AFP,not charged and alllowed to take his connection to NZ.We'll,as always.never know.

Wow, sometimes you guys amaze me. You've never been to Bali and you've made an assumption based on …? Jetstar? Kuta? Schoolies? What? Most of you have travelled more than me, but I know that there are good areas of every country that are worth visiting for many reasons and dodgy areas that should be avoided. Bali is not exception.

There needs to be more good guides on where are the areas and transport around those which are more tranquil, less dodgy and generally away from the uncouth display of alcoholism, drug culture and general exploitation which unfairly characterises Bali.

But yes, the threat of having to fly an LCC (in general - there are non-LCC ways to get there) to get to Bali probably puts a few off, too (both the airlines and the passenger demographics on board).

I'd call it a conclusion, not an assumption. In my case, its based on (edit: nearly) everything I've seen or read about the place in the past 10-15 years.

I won't be going to Bali anytime soon. There are too many places with better reputations on my list that I will get to first.

Nothing to do with LCC, bogans, etc

Bali = Indo = massive dislike of Australia/Australians. Plenty of other places I'd rather visit and spend my money! I've passed up lucrative business opportunities and couldn't care less ... YMMV

Totally agree, but there comes a time when you out-grow drinking Goon sacks & pashion pops & west coast coolers. To me Bali is the same thing, it's a place you outgrow, and you lost me at schoolies. (of course not everyone outgrows things, I still love roller coasters and chunky dunking)

I travel to Bali every few years. I dont go into Kuta and I never really enjoyed Ubud. The only time I see bogans is on the plane and at the airport. There are many beautiful places to avoid them. The Balinese are largely Hindu and as long as you avoid the end of Ramadan then they are the ones you interact with.

Thank you Pushka. This is exactly what I was trying to relate.
