Not theft from you JohnK. Theft from the business.
Definitely theft from me pushka! Theft from the company would be taking something from the stationery room. Anything on my desk is mine and not to be shared with anyone without my permission. Especially when there are personal things on my desk and you don't know what belongs to me or the company.

I don't understand why people keep justifying the practice.

I am not perfect, not even close, but there is something seriously wrong with peoples manners in public. Is it just me?

JohnK, if the company went bust the liquidators would seize everything on site. The things you buy but are not reimbursed for, are yours but everything else belongs to the company and forms part of their financial accounts, no matter where those items sit.

I am not justifying why others might use those items but they do not belong to you. If you take them offsite without consent and with no intention to return them, it is company theft. If you purchase items and the company reimburses you their cost, they now belong to the company.

Was just in the lift in my Bangkok hotel when a bloke asked me if I knew what time the rugby started. My response of no idea was met with: Oh you're a Victorian. Well deduced. :)

I do know that Liverpool is playing Chelski at 11:45PM tonight.

Plus what is happening with the Americanisation of Australia? For the first time I saw kids going Trick or Treating. WTF!

It's been happening for years. Gradual process, being encouraged by mass marketing (hello supermarkets, confectionery manufacturers etc).
