The bride was 13. What a paradox. These days he would have been arrested. Instead we 'celebrate' the length of the marriage.
Interesting that British rule didn't extend to child protection.
IIRC the poms changed the age of marriage to 16 late 1920's. Prior to that it was 12+ for girls
We had a black near the back door last weekend...
what I would once chase with a shovel, I will now chase with a 410
Yes, red bellied black snake. We usually only get them & browns (snakes!!)Assume that's a black snake as opposed to an uhm ... un-PC black?

We have many "black-boys" (the plant) here. A friend was dating a male of very dark skin (is that pc?) was a bit taken back when he asked what plant is that? & I said " A black boy"
Red bellied blacks in NSW certainly can be aggressive.Witnessed one in primary school coming across the playground and biting another young fellow.
Then when in Uni was bushwalking in the Blue Mountains.4 of us,one fell and broke his arm dislocating his shoulder as well. One of the others took him out and the 2 of us remaining carried the packs out.I was fit back then!I was a fair way in front so sat down on the track.A little later noticed the red bellied black head up and heading straight at me.Didn't know I could move that fast.Despite those episodes not at all scared of snakes.
And in NSW those plants were not called grass trees in my day either.
And I was thinking of driving down to Hobart for the cricket tomorrow.

I stand corrected on the snake's behaviour. Maybe the description I read was relative to a WA dugite or tiger snake which can be aggressive and are highly venomous!
The Xanthorrhoea were certainly always called blackboys in my day too (and I still can't help but call them that) but grass tree has been the PC name for quite a while now in WA.
