On the Tassie news earlier this week was a couple celebrating 73 years of marriage.The wife was asked what she thought of the marriage-well I think the trial marriage is now over and I've decided to keep him.

IIRC the poms changed the age of marriage to 16 late 1920's. Prior to that it was 12+ for girls

Sad in today's context, but I imagine still not common at that (mostly then) pre-pubertal age - and average life expectancy was also very short back then.

Yes, red bellied black snake. We usually only get them & browns (snakes!!)
We have many "black-boys" (the plant) here. A friend was dating a male of very dark skin (is that pc?) was a bit taken back when he asked what plant is that? & I said " A black boy"

That species of snake is not especially venomous, and is not aggressive.

Was there really one on a roof? How could a ground-dwelling snake (ie. not a python) get onto a roof?

PC for the Xanthorrhoea has for a long time been 'grass tree' .

Red bellied blacks in NSW certainly can be aggressive.Witnessed one in primary school coming across the playground and biting another young fellow.
Then when in Uni was bushwalking in the Blue Mountains.4 of us,one fell and broke his arm dislocating his shoulder as well.One of the others took him out and the 2 of us remaining carried the packs out.I was fit back then!I was a fair way in front so sat down on the track.A little later noticed the red bellied black head up and heading straight at me.Didn't know I could move that fast.Despite those episodes not at all scared of snakes.
And in NSW those plants were not called grass trees in my day either.

The snake was not aggressive, the dog sniffed it, then she just walked away. But will not take the chance with the rabbits being outside.
This is the 2nd time a snake has fallen from the roof. It happened to dad a few years ago (and I must say we did not believe him) but this week both my son & his partner saw it happen.

Growing up in WA I also knew them as BB. It changed midway through my days IIRC...
