The totally off-topic thread

I now have to remember to change time zones on the mobile phone for the next 6 months.

It should change automatically when it connects to the cell tower, but probably wont :p

Whenever I've driven into NSW my old phone asked if I wanted to change to the correct time, but driving back into QLD the same question never came up. Not sure what it is about QLD!!

I will try using the automatically update Time and Time zone settings again. Everytime I turn the phone off and turn it back on it should pick up the correct timezone although this feature worked in US, Canada and UK but did not work in Greece.

Time/Timezone feature is network dependent. Some carriers choose to use it, others don't.

You will often find that towers close to a time zone boundary don't use it - because they can influence phones on the wrong side of the boundary.

It's good when it works.

I realise this might be a little too on-topic, but I've always found as soon as I drive over the border into NSW at the Tweed my phone wants to be on NSW time, but going the other way, it doesn't even want to be on QLD time when I get back to my suburb. :p

Telstra/Optus/Voda/3 hates Queensland :)

Actually their equipment probably doesn't handle timezones well that are on and off Daylight saving (ie GMT+10, GMT+10 DST), so they've just switched off updates in Qld towers that are GMT+10.

My computer doesnt like DST either.Still on QLD time here in Tassie. Why do they want to be this cold when they get up in the morning:shock:.Had to wear my socks to bed, nothing else of course:eek:
Just noticed-post times are still QLD time-at least on my computer.

The first is a setting in your operating system. You are probably on GMT+10 (no daylight savings observed), so it will not automatically change.

The second is a setting in your "user settings" on AFF - You are probably on GMT +10 (no daylight savings observed), so it will not automatically change.

Just the way I like it
By the way all the avatars just disappeared.
But only for 2 minutes!

One of the random things you find in London is the number of cameras you find watching you.

Tonight I'm watching the cameras though ... They are filming an advert for the new Astra, Good fun to watch and see the many angles required for an advert.

Just last week, I saw a Colgate advert being filmed (tacky!), so I'm obviously a magnet for cameras!

RBA DECIDES TO RAISE THE CASH RATE BY .25 BPS.

The RBA have just announced their decision to raise the cash rate by 0.25%. The accompanying statement made mention to the global economy resuming growth and economic policy to remain expansionary for some time. Once again China gets a mention, the growth there has been strong and is believed to continue, this is said to have a ‘’significant impact’’ on other countries and the commodity markets. Growth in Australia is likely to be close to trend throughout 2010. The commodity markets will continue to support the local economy here.

Apple shouldn't sue everyone who uses an "apple" (or something that resembles an apple). I hope they lose miserably.

I'm conflicted and not just because I'm a fanboy. They have a trademark on the apple and woolies very clearly chose something very similar for their new logo.

As it notes in the article, had woolies just applied for a trademark for their stores there likely wouldn't have been a problem, but they're asking to be able to use it on anything they sell, including possibly computers in the future. That would bring a very similar logo into the same field Apple is in already.

I like woolies, I like Apple. I think woolies should scale back their ambitions of the logo and everyone can be happy.

From the moment I saw the new logo I was just waiting for the day Apple would complain, it's way too similar, and I reckon they knew that.

I've tried to see a similarity between the Apple and Woolworths logo and failed miserably! They don't even remotely resemble each other IMHO.

Two minutes or two minutes and 17 seconds. Maybe this is the way things will be in six months time?
I hope these things are not related as I was dreaming nothing at the time:shock:.I'm too young:(.Even though flashware sometimes casts dispersions on my age:pA lot more verbose trip reports left in me too:lol:

LOL. Now you're just flaming :p

lol, but it was fun :)

Woolworths are a large Australian company. I don't expect them to trademark their symbol for anything less than "every category" - that is prudent business practices. Remember, they also own **** Smith, so may want to bring out a Woolworths branded range of products there eventually (ala the "DSE" home brand they already have).

I don't see the similarity between the Apple symbol, and the Woolies symbol. A stylised apple (by using a W) implies freshness to me - not coughpy Ipods or Iphones.

Next Apple will be going after Tasmania for being the "apple isle". Perhaps they should divert their legal team to the utterly stupid (yet trademarked) name of "iSnack2.0" for that mixture of vegemite and sawdust.
