The totally off-topic thread

When did you book this mystery fare?

Some days it feels like [-]Qantas[/-] Sydney Airways blocks availability from your home port to force you to connect.

Just over 2 weeks ago.BNE and SYD availability dried up so I jumped on the MEL-LAX flights.

Hope you are both going to go to the Sunday session at the Sandstone pub. Its a hoot!

Google maps is bollocks. Used to only take us about 5 hrs on the way back ... and that was er, 30 years ago

Robbery on flights, esp. to HKG reported in this article:
Phone in pocket, passport in pocket, keys in pocket, wallet in pocket, jewellery inside pocket.

Why do people keep putting trust in human beings they have never met?

Wise thing to do indeed. Of course, that would compel everyone to wear clothes with enough pockets to fit all those items. Which is not a big deal, but must be taken into account.

An aircraft is probably one environment where your well-being in the flight is highly dependent on people being trusted enough to do the right thing by you, themselves and others, including the airline crew. Especially when there is no one of judicial power on board an aircraft.

This is a very unfortunate case of trust being abused. No one should have to feel unsafe whilst on board an aircraft. The recommendations for keeping an eye on your belongings is purely a prophylactic one because such idiots exist and it is more difficult to get things back than to prevent them being stolen in the first place. I'm sure the airlines didn't intend that they wanted a plane full of passengers suspecting any one of the 100-300 fellow people on board could be a thief; unless the airline themselves is running the theft racket.

We make a judgement call on who we will choose to trust every single day, and unless you are a hermit, a large proportion of those people are strangers.

Or .. if keeping in the overhead locker, just use a lock on your bag. Would deter most onboard thieves IMHO.

The keyword is "most". Apparently, this thug ring is a bit more shrewd than the run of the mill, and have also raided bags with locks on them.

No idea how they do that silently and/or without destroying the bag, but there you go. Yes, I know how to open a locked zipper without breaking the lock, but that's not a quiet operation....

The Broad Arrow Tavern, 38 km N of Kal is worth a visit - especially the Sunday session : https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attr...Broad_Arrow-Kalgoorlie_Western_Australia.html

They like you to buy a drink if you want to take pics ;).

I'm sure there's some 30 year old Rooflyer scrawl somewhere amongst all the other scribbling on the walls :p.
