BTW my brother in law has electricity, gas and water all supplied by the same company. His solar system generates* enough to pay his electricity, gas and water bills. By comparison $500 is very meh! Perhaps you need to lift your game.

Well, you need to add ~ $800 of usage/charges and GST that is also covered... so around $1,300 for a pretty poor/dark spring qtr. The next qtr credit will be even bigger given it covers summer and we haven't been in the house for 5 weeks.

If you ever want to sleep better get a book on retirement as a Christmas present. It has put me right into "sleep now" mode twice.
You saying retirement books are boring and you're not ready to retire?

That may be the case. and personally, I'd love to put in a massive solar farm on some land I've picked.

But I take issue with the term "magic pudding". There is no magic about getting money for making something, isn't that the fundamental capitalist system? I am also bemused by someone complaining about getting $500. I'm really not sure why someone would do something that they believe is a "magic pudding". IF they feel so strongly about making all that money now, I have to wonder why they betrayed their principles. It's a very confusing situation.

When you sell something for > twice what it cost - it's magic!

Tassie has Easter Tuesday public holiday on 29 March. Rest of Australia goes back to business.

Easter 2016 holiday dates for Australia

Well, the business of Tasmania is holidays .

ps public service holiday and maybe 'banks' get the extra day. The shops and accommodation businesses are open all through Easter, all though Christmas and all through the summer holidays!

In Devonport we also got Devonport cup day and recreation day.Seemed like they had run out of names for public holidays!

Yes JohnK I am not ready to retire although some must think I am there for the frequent flyer points.
Two days a week is quite enjoyable and I can do more if someone is away.

Don't retire Cove it actually gets busier.
From 28/12 I have worked 19 of the 21 days and been on call for 14 of those. The other 2 days were spent travelling.
Looking forward to flying home tomorrow and having nearly 2 weeks at home!

No, it's not magic. Caveat emptor! Besides, as I said that's just capitalism - sell for more than what it costs to make. It'd be a pretty stupid system if you sold for a loss.

What do people think about living in the Middle East?

Hypothetically if you were to be offered a job in Riyadh, doing really interesting/challenging work, and on a much higher salary than now... Would you take it?

Yes, I would. Note that on Thursday evenings (their weekend technically is Friday/Saturday) you'll be a regular making the journey over the bridge to Bahrain as even the expat community doesn't seem to have secret stashes of booze in KSA.

An interesting combination. Interesting work, higher salary, different culture, and to top it all off, a drying-out facility... :)

A big thank you to Awesom Andy and his girlfriend for a great night in Singapore tonight. We had some terrific food (MrsMajor particularly enjoyed the Chilli crab) and several Tiger beers.
Good company, good food and drink. Thanks again

Yes, is my short answer.
