Sorry to hear. War tends to do that to people.

If it was me I'd simply pay the $100/year to keep his memory alive. I know it's a pain but it's not a lot. Just sacrifice one night/year in a 5 star hotel and stay in a 3 star hotel instead.

And who will pay the $100.00 for those who don't have any family left?

SWMBO's grandfather spend a large part of his life advocating for POWs from Europe. Veterans have been dumped after every war. This sounds like another piece of cough. Besides I thought plots were purchased not rented.

Very good point. The RSL? They have more than enough money.

Quit while you're ahead, comes to mind. The RSL has plenty of money, do they?

Ha ha, I was in the shower thinking - did I spell that principal or principle! And thought, no way would I have typed principal!

Good idea. :) I'm sure AFF should be able to get some manufactured in Asia and sell them for a nice profit! :)

A version should be made with windows that change to an ever brighter colour to show the folks back home how the SCs and FF points are racking up as the trip progresses, accompanied by a loud 'bingo!' sound at WP re-qual in a deluxe version ;):lol:.

Some RSL's have pokies cash but many branches in Victoria are merging or folding.

Bit off topic but nearly run over by someone in a SUV with personalised number plates RSL 1, in a shopping car park when trying to cross at a Zebra crossing. Might have been Major General David McLachlan.

In a similar vein we were notified that the ashes and marker of Mr LtL's mother at the Necropolis in Melbourne would be removed and her name written in the Memorial Book if the family did not pay to turn the grave into one 'in perpetuity'. It apparently had been 'rented' for 20 years only. It was lucky we found out as my father in law had died a few years before this and it was delivered to the address where they had been living. Fortunately he had remarried and they stayed in the same house so she was able to forward to us. We paid up but would suspect that many would not get the notification or have family able to pay. I was gobsmacked when I found out as I always assumed that all graves were perpetual. I understand that burial grave sites are in perpetuity but not sure about cremations. They may have changed their practices at some time after this. Mr LtL's brother's ashes were added to the grave and we made sure that the full amount was paid.

and yes, it's the principle of the thing

Just passed car with the number plate RIP 66, a bit odd.

Which RSL has more than enough money?
Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL.

I was under the impression the RSL sub-branch owned a fair amount of property. I recall a few years back Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL made a large payment to the RSL sub-branch.

And assuming the RSL sub-branch didn't have the money then the RSLs could fund this wonderful project out of their 1% re-distribution of gambling profits back to the community.

I guess many don't really appreciate the structure of the RSL. As in there is "The RSL". It's a whole heap of sub branches that are separate legal entities, no doubt. It's not as if the membership base is expanding, either.
