Currently in Doha to check another W off my list. Tis a very nice W, got upgraded to a Fabulous Room, great vibe, lots of nice restaurants and 2 very good bars to choose from. But W HK is still the best one in my books.

Of all the places in the world a W could exist, I can't believe Doha is one of them.

Obviously, Australia just isn't "cool" or "hip".

Qantas F up to LHR was sublime as always with lots of Taittinger Comtes 98 and very cute chappies on the SIN-LHR leg, Club World down to DOH straightafter felt v pedestrian after the FCL flight. :p

QF seem to have the Taittinger all the time on the flights doing the Kangaroo hop. Not a bad number, but I have to confess that I am more favourable towards Bollinger, i.e. the drop of BA First.

I'm assuming CW served Monopole Blue Top - rather pedestrian sparkling. At least the seats are flat and IIRC all aircraft should have the newest CW in them now (cf. some reports ago where you were still flying the old CW).

Heading back to London tomorrow and look forward to getting hammered with anat0l and Mal!

"Hammered" is not the state I would like to be in on the morning of 3 Dec. The limo is booked for 0930h to go to LHR T3; I intend to make it.... ;)

Haha yeah I was pretty surprised to find one here too, hence DOH as my Middle Eastern BA hops in my current DONE4. I'd have gone to AUH or BAH otherwise. There's a lot of big business happening in DOH, and the W here has large corporate accounts (according to someone who works for PWC in the UK who came down on the same BA125 as I did and who I shared the limo to the W with).

I guess Australia just isn't that big a market as we aren't exactly a centre of global trade and commerce, and the luxury/business hotel sector is rather saturated as is. There are some small boutique design hotels that do very well here in Melbourne, but the W is of a much larger scale operationally.

Shopping (some massive luxury malls here with current season offerings) and nightlife in Doha are surprisingly reasonable for a city this size. Not quite Dubai (but getting there I might add - give it 10 yrs), but defo far more interesting with more things to do than Muscat which was really a hole.

Nope we got Cattier NV. There's been a move away from Blue Top in Club. My flight to LAX back in July had Ayala (yum!), and the Middle Eastern flights seem to offer Cattier or Charles Heidsieck. I hear that Cattier is served on the Asian segments also.

New Club is good yes, albeit narrow and claustrophobic if your seatmate decides to put up the privacy screen which makes it hard to chat to anyone. The LHR-BAH/DOH segment is operated by the 744 and so should've had NGCW for a while now. DXB and AUH/MCT are 777 destinations so a bit hit/miss, and AUH/MCT are low priority destinations for NGCW.

That's what they all say...:rolleyes::lol:

Currently lounging in the couches at Gold Coast lounge, waiting for my flight to Sydney. Breakfast was great: eggs and hash browns, pancakes, some Japanese cuisine and a coffee so far. Empty in here again but apparently it gets busier later in the day.

I'm currently looking at the Frommer's websites guide to Istanbul. Here is their suggestions for getting there from Australia and New Zealand by air:

Getting There in Istanbul at Frommer's
From Australia & New Zealand -- There are few choices for connecting flights to Turkey. In partnership with Turkish Airlines, Qantas (tel. 13-13-13 in Australia, or 64-9/357-8900 in Auckland; www.qantas.com) will get you from Sydney, Auckland, and Brisbane, connecting you to a Turkish Airlines flight into Istanbul. Olympic Airways (tel. 612/9251-2044 in Australia; ........maintenance..........) has overnight flights from Sydney and Melbourne via Athens. Other flights from Sydney are offered on British Airways (tel. 1300/767-177 in Australia, or 0800/274-847 in Auckland), Singapore Airlines (tel. 612/9350-0100; Welcome to Singapore Airlines: Asia's leading airline with flights serving over 35 countries), KLM/Northwest (tel. 008/221-714), and Lufthansa (tel. 1300/655-727). From New Zealand, Singapore Airlines flies out of Auckland and New Plymouth; from Australia, British Airways flies out of Brisbane and Melbourne; and Lufthansa services Brisbane.

Now that's just bizarre ! (And normally their guides are pretty good...)

The Jetstar lounge? Is that seriously what is on the menu? Puts some Qantas clubs to shame if that's the case!

Indeed. The offerings are great. Better yet I can have a Shiraz, Cabernet merlot, assorted whites, sparkling or even xx_X and Hahn on tap. It's like an international lounge.

Aww… how did you get so lucky to have them left at your door? I guess you’ll be taking them to the RSPCA to find good homes.
I have decided to keep two of them and have found homes for the other two with neighbours.

Is this one of them?

Just landed in Sydney. Quite bumpy coming in this morning. Sea is quite choppy. Jetstar knee space seems to have improved. Odd.

Is that because Doha is going forward or Dubai is about to go into reverse?

For those people who posted around post #5088, there may have been an inadvertant deletion of some of these, admin is looking at various recovery techniques. itsalongwaydown apparently replied to one of my posts - do you want to re-ask Bill?

Now sat in the SYD T3 QP. If anyone is coming through, I'll be here till 6.

No thanks Lindsay. It was just a banter post.

I was more concerned that something important that someone posted may have disappeared.

Enjoy your stay, I will be in the PER lounge around 3pm today for my flight home, a day earlier than I thought due to me booking the wrong day:oops:

That… and I’m cheap and didn’t want to buy lunch at a cafe, especially as it was also raining a little earlier here. A ham, cheese and tomato sandwich was easy to put together and went down well.

Inconsistencies still remain though, drinking my beer out of a bottle now, might not be later though.

It is not cheap eating in the lounge it is thrifty;)

It's a pity no one is in the J lounge who could invite you in for a slightly better sandwich.

Enjoy the beer.
