My drought of 3 weeks is broken, I'm off to Broome and Derby. Should be interesting as there's a cyclone ripping through Derby at the moment.

All the major flying related events are over for the year so its onto next year.

No more flying for at least 4 weeks; how can anyone cope with that.

Trying to get a new air conditioner installed in our factory/office and they have suggested they can fit it on the 14 and 15 January 2010, great same time as FT Sin Do.

But it doesn't end there, my cousin now living in the US is off to New Zealand for 2 weeks and I should come and visit; the weekend Feb 20 and Feb 21 sound like good days to come over. :-| I am sure those dates are familiar to some people.

Don't you hate it when real life gets in the way of things you plan on the internet. ;)

Look's like Derby's drought is broken too:

Well, my flying calendars show nothing for the foreseeable future. :( So think about how I feel.

In saying that, there isn't much incentive for me to fly in a sense that:
  • QF WP requalification is complete for this year (new year starts next March).
  • After my long trip back from Europe, I'm pretty much broke; it'll take about a month in the new year before I can think about booking flights again.
  • I'm out of annual leave until next February; taking leave without pay again seems unlikely.

There is Oz Fest #7 in ADL to think about and book for; I'm anticipating that the next 'sale' will cover those dates, so I might book then. No SC runs predicted around that, what with prices going back to "normal" (not quite fuel fines era) levels and the family still thinking about to jet off together straight after Oz Fest (current certainty level = 30%).

Yes indeed. I hope you're not thinking of bailing on us. I can't drink all your share of the beer. :p

My 8 yo grandson is quite impressed that they have named a cyclone after him even if they did spell the name incorrectly :!:

You'd better not tell him that he's a natural disaster, then.

(Just kidding)

My 2 (soon to be 3yo) daughter's name around the house is "Tornado".

She is into anything at table level... iPOD's, wallets ($300 missing from my wallet found in her money box), keys, remote (lost & never to be found), lipstick (smeared everywhere numerous times), bracelets (broken), earings (missing), camera (thrown to the ground & smashed)... the list goes on & the name Tornado is very appropriate for her!

When you call her Tornado, she replies, "I'm not 'nado"... very cute & you forgive her (again).

Well a little lesson for all those people who think governments can run anything efficiently. As you are probably aware I do locums in various states meaning I have to pay several Medical Registrations. Now our wonderous Federal Government is finally moving on National Registration and Anna and her pirates have been first to pass enabling legislation. It is all to start on July 1st.
Well I have NSW rego due by the end of the month but wont be working there until at least until July.so I rang the Queensland authorities to ask if after 1/7 i could work in other states with just my Queensland Rego. The answer-no decision has been made on that and we cant give you an answer.Well what is the point of National Registration?
Rant over.

Does the response really surprise anyone :?:

Anything involving Anna Blight *is* a Natural Disaster.

That's not what I need to hear right now :(

Bad enough coming back to AU weather, and now you're telling me that I also came back to one of the lousiest democracies in the world. :(

Would you rather my weather? Snow storms (although not too bad in London). Negative minimums with the "relative" temperature being up to 6 degrees colder, walking through snow. Even now at 2pm it's still 1 degree (feels like -3) outside.

Oh, and I also slipped last night when walking down a set of icy stairs. Now have a very sore butt, smashed the screen of my netbook and damaged a present I had bought (they were both in my backpack).

If it makes you feel any better, I'm not sure Anna has mucked up things any worse than she had before you went on holidays :) Things were already pretty bad before you left.

I really don't mind so as long as everything doesn't shut down. If the transport system goes to hell, then yes we might have a problem. Mind you, the transport system goes awry as it is when the weather heats up like crazy too. Lucky in Brisbane we don't have too many power trips (if any at all) due to air conditioning going through the roof.

As my aunt in Paris told me, when it snows in Paris the transport system goes to hell (i.e. it shuts down). That is definitely not a good scenario.

Hope you're OK for what it's worth.

When I arrived in OSL I had to tread carefully too. I didn't slip at all in the snow or on the icy tarmac, especially considering my grips on my shoes are pretty worn. Of course, I stepped super-carefully and fate probably would have caught up with me given enough time.

You're right. I'm just very tired.

Things aren't much better. We're still trying to raise $15b by selling public assets, which apparently account for less than 2% of the state's assets. Whatever that means.

Yeah, I'm fine... was wanting to upgrade my netbook to something with a higher resolution, so now have the chance :)

Will stick with HP, but now have the huge dilemma of whether to buy a UK one (with a pound symbol), or get an American one (or from Hong Kong). Might need an early in the year trip to Singapore and/or Hong Kong for a look ;)

You are broke and you will be ready to book more flights less than 2 months after coming back from a 6 week overseas trip? How much does a PHd student earn?

Don't you hate it when real life gets in the way of things you plan on the internet. ;)
I think you have it all wrong. The internet is real life and the rests of the things you do are just a major distraction. ;)

Well it's about time they put on some cold weather! Are you any closer to getting a scarf? ;)

Nope ;) And still haven't located a trench coat that I like either.

Although I should be out partying or at least being social tonight, the current weather makes me want to stay home:

0°C. Feels Like -5°C

Min tonight is -3 , with snow showers.

Well you could always go Singapore for FT Sin Do 2010.

I think any city that doesn't get a lot of snow the transport system goes to cough; London; Washington and it sounds like Paris for that matter comes to mind.
