It really depends on your personal circumstances. I agree with cove, it can be good to keep a mortgage alive so you can redraw against it, but there are also costs with doing so depending on your product.

If not, there is something to be said for "saving" and "investing" what you would otherwise put into the mortgage. You will suddenly find you build up a good little investment portfolio and have some cash stashed away for a rainy day.

Naturally this post is not financial advice.

When I paid off the mortgages, I kept the line of credit account going. It just sits there costing me nothing unless I use it, but means I have the equivalent of a large overdraft if needed. Will give it up eventually, but a nice safety net at present.

Can someone please tell me what the heck the Australian hockey teams are doing? 2 losses for the women, 2 for the men. Both lost to Team GB. What's going on!?

Just warming up I reckon. But they'll go through to the QFs because of how the competition is structured. As long as they win a game or two that is.
Wouldn't be confident of them winning medals based on their start though.

Hello Australia....no death duties but we do have a Capital Gains Tax to keep our Federal Government running for a few micro seconds.

Is there a census thread?

What a joke.

Fortunately I was staying in a hotel so scribbled some garbage on the paper form, and handed it in to front desk this morning.

Watch out! Timmy wants your coins once you've gone all stiff & cold ... Call for death tax on 'super rich' families

About 100,000 'super rich' Australians would feel the burden of a new death tax, which could raise about $5 billion a year in federal revenue if introduced, according to Community Council for Australia chairman Tim Costello.

One wonders where your money could (allegedly) end up ... World Vision 'shocked' by Israel allegations Gaza manager diverted charity money to Hamas - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

World Vision Australia chief executive officer Tim Costello said Mr Halabi has worked with World Vision for 10 years, and that they have "no reason to believe" the allegations against their employee are true.
