Is there a census thread?

What a joke.

Fortunately I was staying in a hotel so scribbled some garbage on the paper form, and handed it in to front desk this morning.

Wot? You mean you missed yesterday's fun on these forums?

Buying a property in a foreign land does give you some issues. In France 40% goes to the Government when you pass away so your remaining family do not get a free ride into the property.
We decided to pass on France as a family member is already on board.

Here we just give it to privately run retirement homes. Been researching them a little while I explore housing options for mum. Luckily she's young enough (and hopefully soon) well enough to look after herself for a while yet.
Much better financially for her to get her own little apartment privately.

The lifestyle villages are a financial rort.

Boy it's been fun dealing with CBA. They think charging me $350 to take my documents to settlement is fair. I told them I would rather pay $700 in last minute airfares and lose a days work than give them $350.

Anyway I have been told documents were sent to Brisbane yesterday for my collection. Hope they are there tomorrow and settlement can go ahead Monday so I can start getting some aches out of my head.

Lucky you got your pen license!

I screwed up one question so made a dog's breakfast of it, but hopefully they can read my handwriting.

... and by "they" I mean the computer.

Just warming up I reckon. But they'll go through to the QFs because of how the competition is structured. As long as they win a game or two that is.
Wouldn't be confident of them winning medals based on their start though.

Well they've finally managed one; over our Antipodean friends, nonetheless.

Channel 7 news reporting that 'Commonwealth Bank has posted another outrageous profit' - interesting terminology to use in news reporting is it not?

So where do you deposit your cash Johnny - local dentist? Oops my bad - they are thieves too aren't they?

Guess there has to be a few keeping it in either huge jars in a safe place, or under the mattress.

Of course, we all know that even if one must deal with the devil, that doesn't change the fact that they are the devil. (Assuming that the devil is considered an evil undesirable)

GarrettM I was talking with a friend in Ohio and the deal for his mum in a one bedroom assisted living apartment is around $4500 US a month with no help from anywhere. His mum has had a mental decline and the two sons are being run ragged just making sure she is ok in her home. Including nursing and outgoings he expects the cost to be around $5,000 a month in US dollars once she moves.
We had hoped to catch up in New York but his mum's progress is going the wrong way.

Apparently, I'm an hysterical, tinfoil hat wearer who is ashamed of myself and my family.

Strangely that feels insulting, but apparently I've got that wrong as well. So good to be learning so many things about myself that I never knew after over 40 years.

Just awful.

I dread being such a burden on my kids.

Was in a specialists office today and an elderly mother in a wheelchair was there with her two children. Clearly not much in the way of wealth and they were trying to negotiate just paying the gap and not the whole amount that includes the money refunded from Medicare. Specialist staff said they cant do that. Health care costs are astronomical these days.

That's pretty poor of the specialist. Son (on DSP) is bulk billed at most places luckily but even daughter who had hip surgery a few weeks back was able to pay the gap only to the surgeon (around $2K still though).

Maybe its Adelaide? 3/3 specialists have done the same.

AT LEAST I GET MAX QFF POINTS!!

If it's that awful - you could just take her in! I lived in a 3 gen household for most of my childhood - loved it!

As did I. But just can't see it now. Things have changed. Somehow.
