A couple of my friends have their dogs donate blood at one of the emergency vets here in Sydney. I have looked into it but mine is too old now (they only take them up to 7).

Yes. Not a very good year for you and my wife might feel the same. Life is depressing.

I find Life is what you make of it. While I understand it doesn't seem to have been very kind to you JohnK, in comparison with a large percentage of the population you aren't doing too bad. For a lot of people life is a life and death situation on a daily basis.

Re: What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

Well property doesn't always go up.Ask poor Tommy Hilfiger-
Hilfiger relists Plaza penthouse: Tommy Hilfiger is relisting his four-bedroom duplex penthouse at the Plaza Hotel for US$58.9 million, 26% less than its 2013 asking price of US$80 million. The property was most recently listed at US$68.95 million before it was delisted several months ago.

Life is depressing? In your situation?

Sheesh. Hard to please.
I am fine. Clinically depressed for as long as I can remember but a stubborn cough with a will to survive.

But seriously. Look around you. Politicians are corrupt. People dying everywhere in their prime. Wars on every contintent because people can't get along. And drug dealers in total control.

Do you see it differently?

2016 will go down as the year of fairytales drron!

Leicester City, Western Bulldogs, Cronulla Sharks, Bangladesh beat England in cricket, Australian cricket team whitewashed twice and now the Chicago Cubs.

But the most important fairytale of the lot. I became a father for the first time at 52!

Here is a theoretically betting ticket.

No but it isn't a great thought bubble to give to the next generation. And the negativity that comes with such thinking isn't either. None of this is under your control, only your attitude to it.

A lot! For instance, I don't see drug dealers "in total control"; call me a glass half full type of guy. Life is sweet here in Tassie.#

# Unless you are in one of the many industries targeted by the Greens for closure ... then you are stuffed.

Yes we can just ignore what's going on around us. We can't control it. Sorry that should read we are all too busy to try and control it.

How did we allow society to get to this point?

Yes we can just ignore what's going on around us.

You should not ignore what is going on around you - with so much good in your life it seems like you are?

You have food, shelter, a job, a vehicle, happy parents/grand parents, there is a Mrs JohnK , a Junior JohnK, financial security, you live in Oz, babies visa worked out, airfares are cheap, lots of FFP banked, lounge access, there are millions of Y award seats available , summer is coming, a forum to stir up, life is good?

Count your blessings, they far out weigh the worlds troubles.

It does worry me that we all hear bad news, everywhere around the world, almost instantaneously. As humans we are not built to take on everyone's problems, all around the world. It's impossible. We have to filter or we will not withstand it. And especially for the younger generations who get every bad news story, in their face, when they dont have the maturity to deal with it. Equals Depression as an epidemic.

True. This year has been very special and nothing can ever change what's happened. But life is still depressing. Putting a little sugar on it doesn't change that fact.

We all look at things differently. We all cope differently. We all hide in our own virtual paradises ignoring what goes on around us.

Life is very complex. It's not as black and white as people think.

Too true, you have every right to think what you think, as does everyone else.
I guess the differences between depressed/happy, optimism/pessimism, or looking at everything from the negative V's positive, may be like trying to push the same poll's of two magnetics together - they repel each other.

I think putting a little salt on it doesn't change the fact life is good, I am soooo glad I am hard wired to see positives :)

Positives are one thing. Optimism is totally different.

I see myself as a realist. I am in pain pretty much 24 hours a day and I would say I am constantly suffering. Most days it is severe pain. Medicine doesn't help. And I do know there are others worse off and I feel sorry for them.

You won't believe how much my daughter has changed me already but the fact doesn't change that I am in constant pain. Most days I can't hold her in my arms for more than 10-15 minutes without getting cramps and pins and needles. But that's not going to stop me because I am going to be around to make sure that my daughter has a great start in life.

Please note this is not whinging. I like debate on things others don't like to discuss. I am not afraid. I have accepted that I will continue to suffer. This is as good as life gets as my mum says.
