Had one of those sick to the stomach moments last night. The windows were open to get rid of the kero smell for new floorboards. Didn't realise they had also removed the screens. Our cat who never goes outside (and not meant to go outside as they have no natural defences) likes jumping up on windowsills. Realising I hadn't seem him for a while I had a panic he had got out. (he is microchipped but that assumes a lot of things going our way)

Raced into the rooms and thankfully he was exploring the sander. So the worst that would have happened would have been a brazilian! Phew.

Quick culinary poll: If you have to peel a vegetable or fruit like a potato, carrot, apple, parsnip or the like, do you use:
  • A peeling tool (i.e. fruit and vegetable peeler)
  • Small knife (e.g. about the size of a paring or butter knife)
  • Large knife or cleaver (e.g. chef's knife or Chinese cleaver)

I would use a peeler. Mr Katie might use a peeler or a knife.

love_the_life and I both scored a nice stateroom upgrade for our Singapore-Dubai cruise on Queen Mary 2 next April. Rather a great deal we both got. Kudos to the ever vigilant older Dame who has a great eye for a bargain.

veggie peeler; I'm quite fond of my fingers and would like to keep them.
veggie peeler too. However we bought a new one recently that works really well and I managed to peel half the nail off my thumb. If you are clumsy, everything is possible. Mr FM has always refused to buy me an electric knife.

Ouch! I've removed half a fingernail with a paint scraper before...took quite a while to grow out as it was the centre section of the nail that I removed.

Very ouch and I can't stand the sight of blood - fortunately Dr FM was home on a visit.

Hardly ever peel potatoes or carrots (just give them a bit of a scrub), MrL_t_L doesn't like sweet potato or pumpkin so we don't have them often but usually use a knife for the former and a vegie peeler for the sweet potato. Fruit that is peeled is usually done so by a small knife but use a cook's knife for chopping.
I make a sweet potato and pumpkin soup quite often - I roast them first and then it is mega easy to get the skin off (also tastes nicer).

Ooh, a bit accident prone by the sounds of it. Wasn't there a sprained ankle recently? What's it going to be like in the lead up to the wedding? Perhaps you should stay indoors and get others to do everything for you.

Accident prone is a nice way of saying chronically clumsy :).

I make that occasionally for daughter but MrL_t_L won't touch it with a ten foot barge pole :)
Mr FM is a bit anti Veges, but if I disguise them enough he will eat them. I lightly curry the pumpkin soup and throw in some pears as well. Broccoli soup with a couple of big green apples works well and Zuchini slice with lots of cheese :)

Came home from work to find said screenless window wide open - and had been so for around 2 hours! Hey burglars - come on in. And no crime as they wouldn't have to 'break' to enter. Said cat was locked up stairs in his area.

Sealing coat done. A bit darker needed methinks. The stain will come tomorrow.

At least cat was safe. I remember coming home from work when we were first married to find my parents in the lounge room - apparently the front door had been unlocked. Dog sat under a chair growling a bit. Considering they lived 4 hours drive away this was rather unexpected

I came home once to find mum sitting on the couch watching the TV. We had a little chat about boundaries and it hasn't happened again

Re the burglars - we once had a video recorder stolen and it took us about 4 hours to realise it had been stolen as it was not working and each of us thought the other had taken it to the repairer. Ended up with a new one :)
They got in by taking a fly wire screen off a window in the courtyard. It was the only thing taken and it was a couple of weeks before Christmas.

We had a pot stolen out our courtyard - I was growing cherry tomatoes in it. Quite a big one and a 2m wall to lift it over. The police said they would have mistaken the tomatoes for another sort of pot plant :)

I had a giant lot of basil stolen from a pot on my back deck, despite the presence of two dogs. They uprooted the lot :(
