E. R. Braithwaite, a Guyanese author, diplomat and former Royal Air Force pilot whose book “To Sir, With Love,” a memoir of teaching in London’s deprived East End, was adapted into a hit 1967 film starring Sidney Poitier, died on Monday in Rockville, Md. He was 104.

His obituary reveals a fascinating life including his roles as a diplomat, WWII pilot, and famously as a teacher and author and his battle with racism.

NAB has finally credited the dodgy transactions on my credit card, which means I will cancel it this afternoon.

I am 49c in debit, and a small transfer which I did last week hasn't yet appeared in the account. Although my Bankwest account tells me it was processed last week.

Which means I'll need to go into the bank to give them a 50c coin.

Ugh.

Thats much better than doing an online credit of 49c because the cost to the bank for an over the counter 49c transaction is hopefully more than the transaction amount.

That's true I guess. Easy enough process in the end with a pleasant teller. She actually congratulated me on being able to "rationalise our finances". And I combined my bank visit with a drop in at K-mart to buy the wife a $3 stapler so she could organise some papers for a job/book project interview.

On the topic of kitchen appliances, MrsGM purchased a NutriBullet last week. I was skeptical of course, but after trying it I found it works pretty much as advertised. Fruits and nuts insta-churned into a tasty beverage. I'm seeing a lot of potential in this one. Smoothies, milkshakes, alcoholic blends.... the possibilities are endless.

The Bullet is very good. Mine died as I misused it and broke it but yep, does what it promises.

Justice is served! Fast Eddie cops 5 years (3 non parole)

And here's some context if you aren't sure who he is.
After 20 years in State Parliament, a string of corruption findings and a criminal trial, Eddie Obeid has been jailed for a maximum of fiveyears in jail over his business dealings at Circular Quay.

In a historic decision on Thursday, Supreme Court Justice Robert Beech-Jones said "no penalty other than imprisonment is appropriate" for the corrupt former Labor minister.

We had a discussion today on whether infidelity or defrauding your partner is worse.

At least if my husband cheated on me, I would be able to **** him up going after his (our) assets.

I would be more accepting of him cheating than coming home and finding out the family home/money is gone.

But I can say this knowing the person I married and how both of the above would 99% never happen.

I won't ask how that topic came up, but I will go with the fraud option.

I reckon my wife MIGHT forgive me if I ever strayed - which is not remotely likely - but I can't imagine she'd look at me again if I was to run off with all our money.

Infidelity can be the result of an irrational moment of stupidity, but ripping someone off is always calculated - which I think makes it worse.

Australia with a population of 24 million is bad enough. A population of 50 million? Sheer stupidity.

Infidelity is quickly resolved. Defrauding isn't.

As a woman, its about focusing your anger.

He cheats, you can **** him up in many ways. He leaves you broke and homeless, you are too busy keeping your head above water to seek revenge.

My husband is well aware of what I would do to him if he ever messed up. We were watching a show once and I was very vocal about what the wife should have done and he looked at me and said that there was part of him that was afraid.
