As the end of the worst year ever for celebrity survival looms, we look at who somehow survived and who we want to keep.
Celebrities who haven't died yet
Hugh Hefner, 90 - The Playboy founder has been with so many women it's a wonder he didn't die from exhaustion yeas ago. The only sign the Playboy founder has ever shown of slowing down was when he married Crystal Harris, 60 years his junior, in 2012. He plans to die happy - he bought the crypt next to Marilyn Monroe in 1992.
Kirk Douglas, 100 - The last of Hollywood's "golden age", Douglas worked with the likes of Barbara Swanwyck, Lara Burner, Lauren Bacall and Burt Lancaster. A helicopter crash in 1991 and a stroke in 1996 could not wipe him out and he has also outlasted a son who overdosed on drugs and alcohol.
Mickey Rourke, 64 - The boxer-turned-actor-turned-boxer-turned actor-turned boxer-turned actor (it's hard to keep track) seems to turn to the boxing ring when he gets disheartened with Hollywood, even though fights have messed up his face and at times left him with short-term memory loss.
Ozzy Osbourne, 68 - The former Black Sabbath frontman has said himself he cannot understand how he is still alive after 40 years of drug and alcohol abuse. He also tested his luck in a 2003 quad bike rollover which nearly killed him and a house fire in 2013 which left him with minor burns.
Steven Tyler, 68 - Aerosmith's lead screamer was once so addicted to heroi_ that he allegedly walked the streets looking for dealers. He has had at least a couple of stints in rehab and despite an unpredictable relationship with his bandmates, seems to be on a "wind down" tour with no set end date.
Keith Richards, 73 - A founding member of the Rolling Stones, Richards survived years of drug use, reportedly even snorting his father's ashes with a bit of cocaine. How he is still here is anyone's guess but we will know his time is up if he ever does a concert in Jamaica. He has said he would retire with his family to Parrot Cay or Jamaica if he knew his time was coming. He has also said he would like to "croak magnificently, on stage".
Jack Nicholson, 79 - "I've dated all the women, I've done all the drugs, and I've drunk every drink." It's hard to add anything to what one of the original Hollywood bad boys has already said about himself.
Brigitte Bardot, 82 - French actress who has established herself as an animal rights activist in her retirement.
Doris Day, 94 - The American singer, dancer and actress, who was once the top-ranked female box office star of all time, is still going when many of her co-stars have passed on. Animal welfare replaced showbiz in her life years ago. Que sera sera.
Celebirites we want to keep
Harrison Ford, 74 - You'll do your head in trying to work out how Han Solo and Indiana Jones got to be this old. Ford, a keen pilot, gave everyone a scare last year when he suffered serious injuries during an emergency landing.
Wildlife advocate and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough should be a protected species.
Sir David Attenborough, 90 - The broadcaster and naturalist is regarded as a national living treasure in Britain.
Sean Connery, 86 - It's hard to believe the best ever James Bond and owner of the world's sexiest voice is this old. If he ever frontsh up to heaven'sh gatesh, let's hope Shaint Peter shays Die Another Day.
Julie Andrews, 81 - The English singer, actress, director and author will always be Maria singing, 'The hills are alive with the sound of music..."
John Cleese, 77 - It would surely cause physical pain if anything bad happened to the man who had made so many people laugh as co-founder of the Monty Python comedy troupe as Basil Fawlty from Fawlty Towers.
Helen Mirren, 71 - The award-winning actress made it on to a list of the world's 10 most beautiful women at 64 and only announced she was giving up nude roles last year.
Clint Eastwood, 86 - He made his name as The Man with No Name, and then Dirty Harry, but at the age of 79, the actor and director hit his straps as producer, director and star of Gran Torino, and it was only this time last year American Sniper became one of his biggest movies commercially.
Judi Dench in a scene from the movie Skyfall is still acting into her 80s, despite dodgy eyesight.
Dame Judi Dench, 82 - The seven-time Oscar nominee who won a new legion of fans with her portrayal of M in the most recent Bond movies seems determined to keep going. She gets around macular degeneration by having someone read scripts to her.
Bill Nighy, 67 - Admits to having had an "unhealthy relationship" with alcohol in years gone by. Also admits to thinking about death a lot. But who will play the slightly naughty, witty, cheeky Englishman if not for him
