A coworkers husband quit his GM position for a global company to become a learner driver instructor.

He just had a student what wound down the window, screaming, "get out of the way" to pedestrians as she was driving.

Probably wise advice. Maybe the instructor should have been doing that! :)

As mentioned here previously I had my passport interview last Friday. Today it was delivered. :D

Now I have a new number to remember. Still, not long until I get the first stamp in it.

Looks like have to move desks again. Not sure if temporary or permanent. There are only 3-4 spare desks. Think this is the 13th time since moving to this level in May 2012.

This is not fun.
When I was working the section head used to decide to change teams around, it seemed rather frequently, so up desks and move. Then we had a couple of building moves thrown in just to spice things up. Considering when I started in 2009 there were 11 in our section and when I left in 2015 it had reached its target staff number as identified by some external contractor - 3. Don't miss it in the least :)

Our SA Weather Bureau. Where is the accountability? We need some competition.

Forecast (for the last week including as late as last night): 10 year storm today. Winds up to 90 kmh. 40 mls rain in metro area, 80 in Hills. Sandbags handed out yesterday. Flash flooding expected in Hills and metro area.
Reality: no wind. Drizzling rain, no more than 4 mls I'd say. Clearing up this afternoon.

They either overamp or fail to predict. We know that if we have an unpredicted storm then the next time there is a change, they will do overkill.

Seriously pathetic.
The new VicEmergency App has been giving us warnings for days about 'Weather Events & Damaging Winds' and so far ........

Today we have only made 23C instead of a forecast 30C so not even close.

surely the point of all our wonderful science and knowledge is that we can help beautiful pandas (and others) survive?

It isn't working well in Adelaide and the cost virtually sent our Zoo into bankruptcy. And still no cubs.

My great grand mother had my grand father at 50.
it does happen and she must have had fantastic genes. I am not sure that is quite the same as promoting it via IVF, which is a huge cost, although I don't want to judge people.

I had Miss FM at 40 - totally unplanned and I was NOT happy! I found it much harder to cope with her, than the first two, from a tiredness point of view and just a lack of playfulness on my part. I wonder what it would be like starting at 50. Imagine going through those revolting teenage years in your sixties :(

Having spent many summers in NW Tassie I have been lucky to see 2 of the Orange Bellied parrot in the wild.

Breeding is key to survival, and pandas dont much like sex, so Id call them an evolutionarily defunct species. Sure, we can spend a fortune to keep them because they're cute, but really they are going extinct all on their own.

I had some issues at work on Wednesday with someone in an interim position throwing his weight around. Saw HR yesterday. Then this morning find out have to move again because they are tearing things down to try a hot desk section in the office.

I want to have a choice where I sit not where they want me to sit. I don't want to be under pressure with high expectations and productivity and then put up with all the rubbish habits in the office as well.

I want to leave. ~41 days long service leave the only stumbling unless they make me stress enough and I leave due to health reasons and get my pro rata long service anyway. Not good.

I could have waited another 3 years for LSL but in the end thought "stuff it". It was my second career (after a long time in education and 'retirement' from that in my 50s). I only expected to work in there for a couple of years and ended up with 7. A previous principal gave me the advice that when it wasn't fun anymore it is time to go (either to a new job if you need to or retire if you were of an age like me).

I don't think so. The media and age of the internet means we just hear about it more from all over the world and then it gets sensationalized as that's what gets the attention.
that is all certainly true of a whole range of issues. However I have lived in Canberra for 34 years and I have never experienced the wild storms we get now. The one this afternoon was quite scary - I went out to get the washing off the line when it looked like it was starting to rain and ended up abandoning some of it and racing back inside.
