Do you find that people tent to gravitate to the same desks each day anyway?

That was certainly the trend in one hotdesk environment that I was in. If two people with the "same desk" happened to be in that day, there didn't seem to be any great conflict - just moved to an empty one.

Students in a classroom without a seating plan tends to be the same.

And that's certainly true for Adelaide. We have never been so green in January as we are now. But that doesn't make it a trend - maybe just a weird summer this year.

And Canberra Times now complaining about lack of weather warning.

Canberrans received no official warning Friday's short but intense storm was on the horizon, and residents were unprepared for the damaging winds which left a trail of damage throughout the city and surrounds.

No warning: Freak windstorm takes Canberra by surprise as major clean-up gets underway

Try working in an "Agile" office environment.

- No-one has "their own" desk.
- Each employee is issued with a backpack containing laptop and other devices/peripherals.
- Each day first in best dressed for desk choice.
- On arrival you plug laptop into a rack on the desk which is connected to a monitor, power supply etc.
- Telephone is an IP headset plugged into the laptop with an onscreen APP for dialing etc.
- Printing is discouraged.
- At end of day, you take the laptop with you.
- When you leave for the day no personal paraphernalia is to be left at the desk.

They are introducing that at my office later this year. I think we get a locker to put our personal things in during the day. I do research as part of my job and find it a lot easier to do via paper than on screen. Not particularly looking forward to it but you can't fight city hall!

Last night we ended up having to put the air con on because bushfire smoke was coming through the windows so had to close everything up.

Even then, still warm as we are don't put it on super cold because of sinuses.

Had to wash all the bedding this morning, including the topper.

When I was in Uni we had a one fellow student whom we nicknamed A1. Because he sat in Row A seat 1. He was always super early so he could get that spot everytime we were in that lecture theatre. He wore a tie to Uni.

When we tried to sit in "His" spot, he would then sit in A2 and invaded your personal space even if no one else say in row A.

Strange..

A budding WP in future years?

that is all certainly true of a whole range of issues. However I have lived in Canberra for 34 years and I have never experienced the wild storms we get now. The one this afternoon was quite scary - I went out to get the washing off the line when it looked like it was starting to rain and ended up abandoning some of it and racing back inside.

Canberra windstorm fells trees, causes havoc across city; emergency services inundated - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Didn't realise it was so bad. Looked at the BOM site as the sky was getting a bit overcast, to see we might just catch some rain (we are in a rain shadow). It became very windy, moving chairs around on our usually sheltered rear deck, then 10 mins light rain, then nothing as the wind dropped to zero and the sun came out again.

it didn't go for long but it was crazy while it did. We have a lot of big trees in our garden and near us and I was anxiously watching them. We did get one of our neighbours to remove a tree of theirs after our gardener said it was dangerous and I am glad they did it so promptly as it could have fallen on their roof or ours depending on which way the wind caught it.

The Canberra times this morning said they had 650 calls for help and 15,000 homes lost power.

Funny as we often miss the rain that our children in the Woden valley get but yesterday it bucketed down here and son said it was nothing much there. The wind was unbelievable and at one stage I looked out the window to see a bird being blown along. Quite a few branches and trees down around the area. It then passed over and the temperature went up again.

We had a guy who used to do the same, so one day organised the remainder of the year(it was a very close knit group) to arrive early and fill the seats from the front. When he arrived he was stunned, as there were almost 100 seats filled.

Also that year we had a lecture from the prof on the importance of being properly attired for our chosen profession, including wearing neck ties. At the time I could feel his eyes boring into me as I was wearing a dark navy shirt with a dark navy tie. However this all happened 50 years ago this year so the times have changed. I don't think that the wearing of neckties enhances the professional capabilities although my oncologist seems to wear one.

The only border officer you have contact with now is the one you hand your e-receipt to.passport only visualised by machine.

My just expired M passport hasn't got any Australian exit or entry stamps in it. It has a chip and I thought stamps went out then.

One of my ambitions is to fill a passport completely (before the expiry date).

My current one is filled approximately 10 pages out of 32, with about 6 years to go (5.5 if you take the standard 6 months rule into account).

I know that travelling places that require a visa in advance helps fill it up quickly, since they normally take a full page.

We say the same about our area, we can see the storms going across the south over Isabella Plains, Richardson and Gilmore, but we miss out. We also have a problem neighbour with a couple of problem trees that are more on our side of the fence than his, he thinks we should pay to have them removed from his property.

My very first passport was very nearly full, it had lot's of great stamps from my overland trip in '78/79, including some from Iran where a biro was used to crossout any reference to the shah, or royal as the revolution was happening and the border reopened, but new stamps had not been introduced.

I stupidly allowed it to get stolen in Essaouira, Morocco, I left my money belt unattended for a brief period and it was gone, stupid, stupid, stupid boy!
