So.... are any AFF'ers off to see Bruce Springsteen in the coming weeks?

Or, more pertinently for here, is anyone doing shows in more than one city?

(for those not in the know, there's some serious fans attending all 14 AUS/NZ shows between next weekend and late Feb. - it's a thing... like the Grateful Dead, and Bob Dylan's Never Ending tour...)
No but we have Suzi Quatro coming to little ol Sale in Country Victoria on 19th Feb.

I wonder if this sort of thing would be covered under my house insurance. :( My gardener just cut half way through the main power line (with his big hedge trimmer), from the pole to the house, right near the house. The power is still on and he is OK. The wire looks frayed and has a dogs leg in it. I can see that maybe a cherry picker could be involved to 'rewire' it from the pole high up in the back reserve. An ordinary electrician won't touch it of course, it has to be the local authority. The 'gardener' probably does not have any insurance.
I am guessing that ACT situations will be different from other states. Several questions to possibly consider-is he a sole trader/company, does he work as a gardener for other people, what annual amounts do you pay him. Obviously the best point of contact is your insurer & don't accept any liability until you have spoken to them

But then you are ~ 4400 km too far to the west, and a touch south!

If I were 4400 km east of here (or Perth) I would definitely not appreciate the climate most of the year as I would be in a boat/ship/life raft etc Perhaps you are implying 3400 km?

Happy wandering (but not 4400 km east)

Fred

When you are trying to meet up with other AFFers it can be a little difficult. You may be in Los Angeles doing the IN-N-OUT visit which is almost compulsory and your AFFer colleague is stuck in Dallas or NYC with weather from hell. Just realize that this is quite normal. Just remember Perth has the best climate.

For what? Cooking without turning on a stove?

Funny you should say that. I was over in Ireland on the weekend and went to watch our friend's daughter at her horse riding lesson. We got chatting with one of the other parents, an English chap who was rather interesting and had some great stories to tell (having studied at Eton and Cambridge and travelled the world extensively, mainly due to competitive sailing). Being a singer too, I found it interesting he detected from my initial words that I was from Perth, amazing at picking tone. Apparently there's a difference... In my opinion Aus only really has city folk and country folk accents ;)

Anyway, to bring back to my point .. He said of all the places he's been he thought Perth had the best well rounded weather. So ha!

Apparently there's a huge difference in accents such as if you're from Melbun.... or from Snives.... or Western Sydney.... or from southern Sydney beaches.

For many years I didn't think I had an accent until you hear yourself talking in some places and you can hear your own accent. Really weird feeling....

Well, South Australians speak proper English - and DO NOT SOUND like Kiwis GPH  :p

Yep, have to agree with that, when we moved to Canberra in the late fifties from Adelaide, I was forever getting stick for my posh accent, when in actual fact, I was speaking correctly, the locals (mostly victorian immigrants) weren't.

Now it seems that unfortunately, all australians will end up speaking like kiwis, something to do with the shortening of vowels and nothing to do with with the number of kiwis living in australia, although that has to play apart, eh, cuz! :)
