The totally off-topic thread

And whose responsibility is it when the tree drops a large branch damaging the neighbour's property? The issue is the tree planted in a totally inappropriate location. Many eucalypts are unsuited to urban situations- we have had a driver on Northbourne Ave killed by a branch dropping from a tree in the median strip.

In the UK, it's the responsibility of where it lies... found that one out the hard one when a neighbours tree took out our fence and such. Even though it doesn't live in our backyard, you become responsible if it falls in yours. Bonkers!

I think that tree is beautiful. I agree with your neighbours that it should be left unmolested. I agree that leaves in your pool are annoying, but I doubt the pool was there before the tree.

And the timing of which is completely irrelevant according to SA law.

Falling limbs have damaged our property and we are unable to walk barefoot or sit on the lawn. We have the right to trim it so that it does not cover our property and which is where it was 13 years ago when we purchased.

Yes. A young girl was killed on her way home from work a few hundred meters away when the same kind of tree dropped its limb on her car. And one of our child's teachers was killed by a falling limb a few years ago. A child was also killed while playing at kindy.

2 sets all in an enthralling final - I'd rather have my toes amputated than miss this match or watch some second rate Pommie TV show!

When we put our pool in I went next door to discuss a tree - a few bottles later it was agreed I could arrange and pay for removal. I made it happen before his hangover cleared :D

The self cleaning function has worked a treat ever since.... given it cost a truckload to install the cleaning system, it was well worth the hangover.

We had a huge lillipilli removed a few years ago because our elderly neighbour (on the other side) was frightened it would fall on her bedroom but the Council wouldn't let us. It was too large and was protected. We had to pay for an arborist report and that showed it's girth wasn't because of a single trunk but because it had split into two. Being good neighbours we then also paid for its removal even though we didn't want to remove it. No offer from next door. Shame that others aren't as obliging.

My toenails are now a very pretty purple colour, the boss wasn't happy, she says 'purple' is so yesterday, anyone agree with her? :)

What a match!
Have always followed Federer but really didn't think he had another major in him.

We rebuilt the house about ten years ago. The toilet cistern mechanisms are now starting to fail (and need replacement). How come as a kid the toilet bits never fell apart?

To the hardware store I will be wandering

Fred

Anyone who love sports, any sports, would wish to be at Rod Laver tonight. I used to go almost every year when living in Melbourne and it's an UNBELIEVABLE experience. You're a lucky man Cruiser!
Are there many true sports fans around?

In bed by 9:00pm last night was more important than any sporting event....

Because most cisterns now are plastic, and anything you buy from a hardware store is also likely to be plastic - and hard to get parts in a few years time.
I have a plastic in the kids bathroom, and it was replaced about 18 years after installation, yet my porcelain in my ensuite is still going strong and never been serviced.
Do you self a favour, go to Tradelink/Reece/Eagles and get a brand that you CAN get parts for when needed later down the track.
If you are going to replace the whole suite - then take photos, measure the set out, because not every pan will fit the drain, and also watch for what side the inlet is to the cistern. The more changes, the more it will cost to install.

We had a couple of giant lillipillies and when we went to the council to get permission to remove them they said go for it! They consider them a pest so no permit required.

Considering gum trees drop their lower branches, they are not family/home friendly.

My husband has a **&#&(@(#( ($($&$(8 (()**@&))_ stupid Fig AND massively huge pine tree that needs to be cut down and he says no.

Husband asked me a couple of weeks ago if I thought the neighbours were throwing pine tree litter over our fence and he was outraged by it. I told him I hope they are throwing it over our fence and I would do the exact same thing.

Hate those stupid trees. The Fig tree looks like its encroaching on their overhead wires to their house as well so Im going to tell husband that he has to pay for our lawn/garden guy to fix that.

No different to FF pts acquisition for F class travel boomy - the uninitiated and uninformed have ZERO perception of what they are missing! Try to explain it? Nah just giggle inwardly and move on.

Last night saw the movie "Lion" so rare for me to watch a movie other than on a plane, one reason is the 25 minutes of adverts before the movie starts.

While flying on Virgin Australia over the weekend one of the read articles was the Lion book as the movie was based on a true story, not sure how someone can get through a book unless they are doing a lot of flying on VA.

Also how one event can change your whole life, movie worth watching even if you have to wait until you are on a plane.
