Who said I was sweating? Just an observation that it'd be near impossible to predict my movements and cause constant delays on the services I use. Unless of course you already had access to that information. Like say from the future?

But it's not just the small stuff? Is it?
The delays you are talking about John are what I consider normal on Vline.

But you are always using such things as delays as an issue for you in your life.
Nah. Delays are fun. They are a nice distraction from the important things.

I think you will find, though, that other trains have been delayed not just the ones you are on.These sorts of things happen all the time (except in Japan which is gloriously on time). Not predicting your movements at all, just coincidence IMO. :) Sometimes better to just go with the flow.
You're probably right. Reliability is shocking at less than 70%. Unfortunately some people rely on reliability. If one leaves an hour early to get somewhere on time then that's an hour wasted.

You should have been in Mackay one January day in 1965.The premier QLD express, the Sunlander, was 24.5 hours late. And we were told not unusual.

That was one of my biggest night'mares'....

3 Miss Steady's and acreage :!:

Had acreage at the time when daughters were 10 and 13. The pressure was on for horses, but I couldn't afford the bottomless money pits, even though there were plenty offered 'free to a good home.' I chose cows instead but even then daughters tried, with a little success, to ride the calves.

Smart move.

I think I have just about recovered from the cost of the 'horse experience' 20 years ago.

Daughter's first horse was kept in horse paddocks a couple of KM away. She and her friend (who had a horse there too) would ride their bikes up every day after school with biscuits of hay strapped to their backs. We put up a small shed a little later and they could keep a lot of their gear up there which made it easier. After the 2003 fires came through we drove up to see the damage - and it was terrible; all the stables and fencing gone, cars burnt but standing there proud was the little tin shed, a bit scorched but otherwise unscathed. Luckily both girls did not have their horses up there that year.
After she went to uni in Sydney she took up road bike racing, though in 4th year did buy another horse. Mercifully she sold it in the middle of 5th year, to one of the Aust eventing team who then sold him on to someone in the US (and he made a packet from him - we didn't).

Feels strange being alone tonight. Daughter having vaccinations in morning.

Think it's the nagging I miss the most....

Well I have been married for 37 yrs & my "dear" wife has had a horse all that time.

If she is smart enough she may qualify for a scholarship. One of our sons did and it saved me heaps of dollars. He is now a High School Maths teacher at a Brisbane private school

Contrary to any belief or assumption, I went for exams competing for scholarships at two different private schools. Didn't get either; in one case, not even close at all.

Lucky my portfolio at the time allowed me to be accepted into the best state high school in Brisbane, though I lived outside the catchment. The school still retains the same high standards as I went through; had I tried to get in now as I did then I would have no chance (not smart nor talented enough).

As an ex public servant I do take a little exception to the last line of the joke. Our section had a lot of interaction with our clients and we went out of our way to provide the highest level of assistance and service. Not all PS can be tarred with the same brush.

I worked for Harvey Norman for a while. You get tarred with:
  • You don't care about customers - only sales and commission
  • You are in the business of ripping people off and supplying them things they don't need
  • You actually know jack <excrement> about your products
  • You don't seem to understand "I'm just looking" so leave me alone
  • Give me a refund or I'll sic Fair Trading all over your hide

Ronald Reagan had a few things to say about that-
Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.

The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth!
I was chatting personally with gareth evans and the bob hawke/Ronald Reagan interviews came up. mental pygmy was gareths comments of Ronnie. there you go hey. at least we have a great businessman now.

We have had very similar experiences in this area :D

We are on acreage and our daughter also requested a horse. Our excuse... we have no idea how to look after a horse, and we wont have an animal that we can't look after properly. Worked for 24 years.
Now, our son & his partner live in the other house on our property and has her horse (Hawthorne) here.
So my son now has the joys of paying for the up-keep of Hawthorne. (she does not work)

I have a friend in Sweden who was a well know rally driver and codriver, one of his daughters is into show jumping in a big way, and apparently quite good.

Per tells me that he wished she had got into motorsport as it would be much cheaper than horses!
